My wife made a couple light mods to her awesome OPPO t-shirt! Plus.... I'm back from Mexico DF!!!! Murica \m/
First off, these shirts are beyond awesome, 55Buick is da man!
She started off by slicing the sleeves off.
..then got'em all sewn...sewed? all sewn up :]
she ended taking off around 6 inches from the bottom. An XS sized shirt would of too tight from the neck. This was a small and was also a bit wide. To solve that, she simply just sew each side around an inch and a half
She was thinking off making the bottom of it stringy, kind of like a bunch of spaghetti strings along the bottom but decided not to. Off to the back side, she got measuring...
She decided to give the back the shark gill treatment :]
Once she got the gills cut, she cut strips of material leftover from the bottom to tie up the gills.
then... gold pins :]
aaaand done son!
photo shoot time :]

Was an intern in VW, had to wear dress shirts, shoes and trousers every day. As a good intern, I was poor and only had 2 pants. I was mugged one day, and the guy ripped the seams of one pocket.
I stapled my pants and walked like that for 2 days until I found some thread and needle. Too bad the thread was white. I proceeded to spend the next 30 minutes making the most horrible stitches of the face of the earth, so at least I could use the pockets, and my leg wouldn't be exposed, then dyed the apparent thread with a sharpie. Had to reapply the sharpie every time I washed them.
One day my grandma visited me, and after a 15 minutes speech of how important it was to dress well she fixed my pants in like 30 seconds.

My GF once sat and watched me attempt to repair a pair of jeans with a rip at the seam. After i threw down the thread in anger and went to find a stapler she took over... I find it mind boggling how some people can just pick up a needle and thread and fix something.

Yeah.. I usually get proud of myself for being able to change a flat in 3 minutes. But I feel nothing special about it. My wife sometimes picks one of my old, ripped and worn out Pantera shirts and makes them into something awesome like EL_ULY's wife in minutes. That's just awesome.
And on another hand, my grandma once rewired her broken SNES power adapter and still plays it. She's a badass.

Pantera shirts and SNES , I like all those things. I think the thing that impresses me is that when i fix something on a car it's bolts and clips whereas you have to have a creative mind to do stuff like that to clothing, I suck at that.
Hermann
> Twingo Tamer - About to descend into project car hell.
04/14/2014 at 17:17 | 0 |
Pantera and SNES are indeed nice things. Granny loves Mario 3 and Dr. Mario. And my wife, I met her in our local Black Label Society chapter.
This is an excellent point about creative mind. But for example, when building something from scratch for cars or electric stuff, you also need some creativity.
I mean, piping a turbo or a custom exhaust headers into modern cars requires not only tetris skills, but also a lot of creativity to get things in their places without burning the car down.
Same goes for installing new trunk lights, or wiring new stuff into a restoration project.

Pretty cool I have no gamers in the family which makes me look even stranger when i sit and play arcade games from the 80s and my GF hates anything heavier than pop punk which means my roommate accompanies me to any rock/metal gigs.
I haven't had a chance to test out my creativity yet since I only work on other people's cars... soon.

Well, guess I'm a bit fortunate then, ahahha. Who'd guess? I live in one of the worst countries for a Jalop, though.
My family had a shop, where we'd fix our own stuff since we're a family of farmers. But as most farms go, there are months where you have absolutely no income, so my father used the shop to do stuff for other people. Like fabricate stuff. And some of these things required at creativity, as he had to "invent" tools and machines to do stuff. Like bend Stainless steel sheets in a certain way to make trays for a local pizza place. My father barely finished high school, but he had the mind of an engineer.
We had two 1950's combines, and most of the pieces weren't available anymore, so we had to make them. Same goes for our straw presssing machine, which was found in a junkyard in pieces (that one has a long story. I could write a whole piece on this machine. Beautiful story).

My grandad who taught me what mechanical stuff I know was self taught too. He was a farm hand from a very young ago and learned to drive and repair tractors. Although he probably didn't get to work as much stuff as your family, mostly just maintenance and messing with carburretor tuning. Then when he got to driving age he learned to maintain his own bikes and cars since he couldnt afford to pay someone else to do it. Sometimes degrees and school arent always the best ways to learn.
