After reading the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , I see a lot of speculation about what is actually going on with RC rules and drones these days.
I've done some reading on my own as I'm very interested in it as both an aviation enthusiast and RC hobbyist, and honestly the current rules and regulations aren't all that complicated. I could do a write up going over the rules if anyone is interested, but if not I'll just keep correcting people that seem intelligent in the comments.

Since I live in the Big City (haha, it's Vermont, "big" is relative) and have moved about 12 times since 2008 I havn't done any outdoor RC flying in quite some time (though I try to keep my skills harp with indoor micro-scale stuff) But I'd be curious to see if/how the current regs have dealt with the proliferation of private drones and semi-autonomous small-scale aircraft. I'd argue that the low-cost of and improved computer-aided control systems in modern model aircraft have opened the hobby up to a host of people who were previously financially, or perhaps most importantly, disciplinarily unable to participate previously.

I think a big part of the issue is the regs haven't really kept up. AMA has added rules for FPV flying but people don't follow them, which is turning into a serious issue. The FAA hasn't figured out what to do yet, but they are working on it.
Basically, there are rules in place that if followed would eliminate a ton of the NIMBY people (Not In My Backyard), but people aren't following them. That becomes annoying when reading articles about drones and RC stuff where people start calling for new laws and rules and regulations, or when people whine about someone getting in trouble for doing something they deem as harmless, even if they are breaking the rules

while it doesn't apply to me, it sounds fascinating.
