The 318i is injured...

So I'm trying to figure out what could be wrong. Clutch won't engage anymore. I managed to pop it in first with a bit of rev matching but it's on a hill the wrong way for that now.

Clutch never slipped, just suddenly popped a bit after a shift and it stopped working. No fluid loss, no smoke, nothing. I was thinking slave cylinder possibly?

Any ideas?

Could be your clutch throwout bearing (a.k.a clutch release)

I hadn't considered that, the clutch only has like 5000 km on it from the previous owner.

I did the same thing about 800 miles after a ...spirited... takeoff at the lights. I wouldn't rule it out.

damn. That's a whole new clutch isn't it? I'm not versed on transmissions yet, I was gonna pull a junker to fiddle with but now mines actually broke...

I haven't done it myself (I just threw money at it, was time poor back then), but from memory it's not about the parts, just the labour. Very much depends on the vehicle and your abilities. Both mine are shit.
