Kinja'd!!!

Although this has probably been asked about a billion times, I'm going to ask it again.

Let's say you're given the lump sum of $15,000 (or the equivalent in whatever currency), would you either buy a car for the full $15k? Or would you rather buy a cheap car/fixer upper and then use what's left to make your own special car?

I personally would find an MR2 of any year and spend the remainder on various suspension/chassis components, some sticky tires and wider wheels. Possibly a bit on the motor as well. (sorry for not being anally specific)

What say you, OPPO?

I would get something older, with some character and fix it up nicely.

An Audi Coupe Gt Quattro preferably. Or a 65 Mustang.

I'd maybe get a 1.0L Fiesta if I could squeeze it. If not, 944 all day bro.

EDIT: fuck everything I said above, would buy an Alfa.

The MR2 idea sounds nice, I'd probably either get a beat up Toyota pick up beater, orr Miata

A sleeper pickup? That would be badass.

As for fixing them up, I've seen some really pretty Toyota pickup trucks.

I wonder how hard it would be to find that audi?

As for the 1965 Mustang, there's one around here I see in a field at the right time of year. I'll have to see if I can spot it.

I was thinking a good ol Mericun truck with a big engine, easy to get huge gains... Chevys it isn't more than a head swap and its a Corvette that will shred rubber for days.

It would be hard. Really hard to find the perfect one.

I'd get the best sports car I could find. GTO, 350Z, SRT6, S2000 etc …

But I'm not big on modding, a little bit louder exhaust and I'm happy.

Fair enough. Each man has his own taste.

It would be a miracle to find a relatively unmolested Honda around here. Even here in Ohio where Appalachias finest drive big ol' pick 'em ups.. The stand and rice scene still makes it through. Mostly on Dodge neon.

There is a local neon owners club. None of the SRT4 guys will have anything to do with it. Mostly because it's a bunch of idiots who do little baby burnouts in their fact canned neon.

I am Jalop, however, and I respect each man's love for his car.

That would be quite the miracle. A stock Honda before 1996 is near impossible to find in Northern Virginia. I always keep my eyes peeled for one though.

1965 Beetle is the other one :) The Beetle was restored years ago, repainted, new engine, various new body panels, interior redone in black. It could just use new parts still though, suspension is...who knows how old, transmission needs work, and it should have dual carburetors. The Z on the other hand- hoping my next big purchase will be a LSD for it, then want to build it into a track car/auto X beast, but it is completely stock at this moment.

Lol, they do seem fun, my Best friend has a older 2500, was one before the HD's existed, but is pretty much a HD, heavier duty transmission and everything then the normal 2500's from then, and it's a beast, as far as hauling cargo, it's embarrassed many Dodge's, lol. I was thinking about getting a Ram 2500 so I could get a manual, but his truck is making me think Chevy.

A truck is the only thing I would own in an auto... Driving stick in a truck is not the same as in a car, especially with the generally long, long throw and very high release point on the clutch.

Wow, I just saw this. I'm sorry.

I would love to own a 1965 Beetle. I love them.

The Z is an awesome car already. I can't imagine throwing an LSD, a stiffer chassis and some good Springs and rubber at it.

Probably a Red 07 335i with a stick

Because screw reliability and running costs.

Kinja'd!!!

It's funny cause in a few years I was gonna see what 15k could get me, I'm okay with the results.

It was my first car :) And they usually do have a viscous in them, but base model doesn't. Base model does weigh less though, so it is usually the one sought after for track cars, just needs a LSD, lol. Also, don't have to deal with turning T/C off in the base, because it doesn't have it. The plan atm is - LSD, coil overs, sway bars, and other various suspension components, big brakes, lighter wheels and sticky tires. Then add power (probably gonna build the motor a bit and go F/I of some sort). Then start adding lightness, so stripping interior, roll cage, carbon fiber goodies hopefully. Somewhere pretty early in that list a good DD becomes a need, as ...Colorado has snow... so.. need something to go in it.. the Beetle can, but the Beetle is a 40+ year old car, and thus not the most reliable, and it's heater its awful.

My aunt has an '08 328i 'vert and before that an 05 325i 'vert, neither gave her any issues other than routine maintenance. With these it just depends if it was taken good care of. The Mustang convertible she had before either of those gave her more problems.

As goes for almost any car. It just depends on how well you maintain the vehicle.

Unless of course it's a GM 4.3 V6 or 3800 or any LS motor. Those will run forever on no maintenance it seems.
