The PorscheTamer is bored at work; he knows a lot about Porsches, but not everything. So lets see if anyone can teach me something new about the 928. And not just that "it's a money pit" or "it's a POS", I mean something specific and factual. Fun facts, specs, trannies, engines what have you! If someone tells me something I don't know, I'll give them some cookies!

To get things started, it was interesting that there was a rear hatch release control on both the driver and passenger sides. Which might have been scary, except the hatch release itself didn't work for very long anyway. :-)

Oh! And one other thing was that you could get optional rear air conditioning. You know, for the comfort of the rear seat passengers on those long trips. :-)

The 928 was the first (and I believe only) sports car to win "European Car of the year" thanks to innovations like the "Wessiach Axle" that gave passive rear-steering and the various bits of fiberglass and chassis design that allowed for the use of integrated bumpers instead of the horrible 5mph crash bags that every car on the planet was being saddled with.

Now let's summarize the trim levels

Base model - 4.5L V8, no aerodynamic upgrades.
S - 4.7L V8, bigger brakes
S2 - 928 S in the UK
"S3" - 5.0L V8 in America, officially remained as the 928 S
S4 - 5.0L V8, upgraded suspension and brakes, rear spoiler is standard
CS - Club Sport package. Don't remember what all is in it. Based on S4 but lighter and faster.
GT - Manual transmission only with upgraded power and suspension.
GTS - Final trim package. 5.4L V8, better transmission and drivetrain, more luxury, the "best" 928 to own as-is.

Factual?

Can't help ya there.

It is one of the top two cars I will own before I die.

I guess that counts as a fact. And you didn't know it. So there we have it!

Really? I assume it was wired to the car and not very mobile? Any fun or special things about the phone?

It twice played the role of the Batmobile in 1988's Batman: Year One and 1990's Legends Of The Dark Knight.

I've never seen it. I was just told about it when I ducked out of purchasing one a few years back. It was just a story from the mechanic, but he said you could get a phone dial to match the famous phone dial wheels. The whole network's inactive now though from what I remember him saying.
