Found this while exploring the rural-urban fringe of Macau (geography stuff) and had to climb on a wall to get a better look. Note the bucket racing seat and lack of any interior trim apart from the dashboard. Also note the go-karts on the wall. To me, this looks like a failed racing project of some sort, since it's stuffed right at the back against a load of other motors.

Oddly enough, the Audi main dealer is less than 10 metres away. In the panorama: junkyard on the left, Audi dealer on the right. Maybe it was a secret employee project gone wrong…

Kinja'd!!!

Edit: also note how the rest of the car is practically pristine - no crash damage as far as I can see. Would make for an interesting Craigslist advert...

Why would they use a 5-door?

You mean you can never buy a 30 000$ small car with a 100hp engine? Trust me it's not that sad.

It's good looking and well built, but a TDI 105 with a few options will cost you just as much as a Megane RS.

I'm sure if it was actually available I'd have a completely different opinion on it. But to me, it'll always be forbidden fruit, in the same group as the RS6, every Holden, some Alfas, and a bunch of other cars.

The A1 was introduced in 2010, so if you're Canadian you can get one in 2025 and if you're from the US in 2035. Unless the NA countries lift their silly import ban and/or unify their testing methods with other parts of the world.

Did you just question my patriotism?!

Anyway, I agree with you 100% on that one. If the US were to just go by European standards, everyone would benefit. Literally everyone.

It's not like if I import something it's going to be absurdly dangerous. If it's street legal there, it should be street legal here.

But then wouldn't it need a backseat?

I can understand that, we have the same feeling about all the Mustangs, Chargers, etc. and to some extent even for cars available here, because you don't have the same perspective on a Corvette when gas is 8$/ga.

Oh an autoX. That's also a forbidden fruit.

YOU GUYS DON'T DO AUTOX?!

why not??

It's silly legislation. The E30 Touring I've got parked outside left the BMW factory April 15 1989. This means it's deemed too dangerous in the US today and tomorrow, but next Tuesday it's suddenly safe enough. Yet a 5 star airbag clad new car is still too unsafe?

Right? Makes absolutely no sense. That's a deathtrap that CAN'T BE ON THE ROAD BECAUSE IT'S TOO OLD AND WILL 100% KILL PEOPLE

but next Tuesday you're good.

In all fairness, he can't get the Megane either. :-(

I don't know. I would really love to do some autoX, but it's just not a thing here.

We have something called autocross but it's a very different kind of racing (think rally prepped cars and jumps).

It's really sad because AutoX seems to be the very essence of car enthusiasm, but I haven't found a single AutoX within 500 miles from here.. It probably got killed by the think-of-the-children crowd.

Well that being said, we do have the Nürburgring. I can't wait to go back there next weekend!

He can get a GT86 for 25 000$. Sticker price here is 29 950€ I think.

We totally do autocross here in the UK, though it's generally called autosolo. I think there might be a few minor differences between the two, but they're based around the same concept.

Rallycross, on the other hand, would appear to have a veeery different meaning on the other side of the Atlantic.

Way to just rub it in my face!

Auto X is really fun, and brings out the enthusiast in people. Nothing to show off, just plain old racing.

Yeah, I wouldn't go for the A1 either. I'd provably take a Megane RS over a GT86, though.

I like ours, 'cause there's more cars and crashing. I'd be happy to have a go at either, though.

I'd do either in a heartbeat.

They're both really different but one's a family hatch made to be quick, and the other one's a purpose - built sports car.

I'm actually considering both cars, but somehow I think 265hp / tq is a tad too much. The GT-86 sounds like a car you can have fun with without losing your licence. I'm afraid the Megane isn't so. But it's more practical, just as cheap, gets about the same fuel economy and costs the same to register.

A better deal, but maybe not a better choice..

Kinja'd!!! KirkyV > Alex87f

I'm an utterly biased hot hatch nut, so I wouldn't pay much heed to my views on the matter if I were you.

That said, though, the Megane is a little too large for my tastes. I've always preferred supermini-sized hot hatches, like the old RS Clios - pre paddles - the Fiesta, and the 106 GTi/S16. They've more in common with the old 205 and Mk1/2 Golf than modern family hatches.
