Was at the Long Beach Grand Prix today with my wife and noticed something interesting. The Mazda prototype cars sure do look great but why the hell are they so slow? They were getting passed by the vettes and Z4s. Whats the deal?

IMSA hates P2 cars.

Seriously though it's the first year running these cars and Mazda's primary goal is developing their motors. It took them most of last season to get their Mazda 6 cars to finish reliably.

Gotcha,

Thats what I was thinking as well, it must take a lot of time to develop a new tech and new car like that. One of the cars only lasted 2 laps before it retired with some sort of engine problem. They look the business though!

They are using new Skyactive diesels. It's a nee program with a new engine, and they just hven't worked everything out yet. They will either get better next year or they will scrap the engine, I think.

Hopefully they get it together, it would make the series much more interesting.

Yes the Mazdas painfully slow but it's just the brand new technology not being there yet. I noticed one of the Patron P2 cars also was holding up the GTLM field.
