Went to pick up some bolts to hold my headlights to my Cavalier. The dealer wanted $8.45 PER BOLT! for them. Jeezus. Went to Kenny-U-Pull, got a horn, and a couple other pieces for 4 bucks. (Along with the bolts). The bolts were free...lol. Unfortunately I dropped one, so I went to Rona to get another (or at least something like it). Turns out they were just regular metric 6 bolts.

Anyways, because a little bit of rust on my rad support has embiggened the holes, the metric 6 bolts wouldn't fit anyways. Ended up using 5/16th screws though it took quite a while to figure it all out. (Plus drive all over town). Oye. Gimmie beer!

But yeah, was floored the dealer wanted $8.45 for each one of these.

JEBUS! The huge-ass, high tensile, head bolts for my old Volvo V70 AWD are a dealer-only part (there are aftermarket available now, but there weren't back then) and were - wait for it - $8 each. There were 10 of them though...

Well what you have to remember is the build quality used in dealer parts. Those bolts the dealer was selling? Made of a blend of carbotitanium, mithril, adamantium, and pixie dust.

Them bolts'll outlast any chevy on the road. Them bolts hold down the rails to the midnight train going anywhere. Them bolts kept the Terminator together under the hydraulic press. Them bolts...them bolts saved muh pah

Came ready to rage about the fact that bolt quality barely matters to hold headlights in place...left with a smile...

That's fairly outrageous. Just mumble gibberish, and then leave with a shiteating grin.

A couple of days ago a friend of mine lost a tail light to a hail storm on his 2013 GT. The dealer wanted $943 for a tail light.

A tail light assembly.

Sorry, 12 actually on the 5-cyl... but they're M12 x 157mm stretch bolts... $8 each seems like a bargain compared to what the Chevy dealer wanted to ass-rape charge for you for headlight bolts.

At least M12 x 157MM you can't pick up at your local Home depot. These were M6 x 25MM....for $8.45. I was speechless when he told me. I tried to tell him that that was exorbitant, but I couldn't remember the word and just said "that's.....extreme" and left. hahaha.

Since BMW parts are usually scarce I usually end up just going to the dealer anyways. I can order them online and get them in a week, or I can go to the stealership and pay what I would've payed in shipping anyways.

Ridiculous.

Lights aren't cheap. Most wreckers charge an arm and a leg too.

I never though they would be that much. He ended up caving and buying a set from a junkyard for around 450 I think. Which is still nuts.

I couldn't believe it. He told the dealer to lick his nuts and then walked out.

I thought I was getting jipped at Home Depot the other day for 2.50 a bolt. I need to go find a wholesaler...

I have two comments about that...when I was on morphine because of having my knee relocated...I shouted at the whole emergency room to suck my nuts!

Today at the dealership I tried to tell him is price was "exorbitant" but I couldn't quite get the words out of my mouth and just said "your price is.........*tries to say exorbitant...fails* ....extreme!" and left. lol.

At home depot these came to about 80 cents. They weren't even expensive bolts! But yes, relative to...say...Ottawa Fastener and Supply...Home Depot has expensive bolts. However...they are not even close to dealer level.
