Assembled here are the best Oppositelock posts from Monday and Tuesday. Today we've got a Bimmer roadtrip out of New Mexico, the expectation quotient, the problem wit Ferrari owning F1, explaining cars to non-car people and more.

Old cars: buy the best example that you can afford, right? Unless you're actively seeking a project, that's the convention. So, imagine a listing for the car you want, at the price you like, where the only needs listed are "a wash and wax". I found that car last summer. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

I like people and always try to give them the benefit of the doubt as a general rule in my life, but one of the most plaguing annoyances in my current career path has to do with the expectations others hold of my abilities to aid them. I wrote an article a while back about not being taken advantage of as a gear head, but this time I want to talk about the other side of the issue: The Expectation quotient. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

The Scuderia has the power to strong arm the Formula 1 regulating group more than you might realize, both through contractual agreement and subdued pillow talk. With the new controversial regulations providing arguably the best race in decades, Luca di Montezemolo is taking this moment to steer Formula 1 back into Ferrari's favors. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

When you start devoting any amount of time to a certain subject, It becomes a hobby. Hobbies are good. Hobbies have inspired the creation of businesses and fueled relationships. However, with any hobby, there will always be the doubters. The people that question what you are doing. They question the benefits from said hobby and the reasoning behind it. I was confronted with one of these doubters just a few days ago. "What is the deal with you and cars?" they said. Or would've said if I hadn't cut them off after 2 words. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

About a week ago I asked you guys for some suggestions what to get my brother for his second car, having totaled his first car, a 96 Honda Civic Ex Coupe. I appreciated the responses and did read all of them, but I ran across a little gem while exploring the wonderful realm of Craigslist. A gem which surprisingly took quite a bit of convincing for my brother to consider let alone purchase. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Acura gets a lot of flack around here, and most of it for good reason. They were once a brand both respected by enthusiasts and folks who desired a quality luxury car but didn't want some of the baggage that comes with ze Germans. Then Acura killed all the cars loved by Jalops: the Integra, the RSX and most sadly the NSX. There was a glimmer of hope for a while with the 2nd generation TL, but then that glimmer went dark with their new corporate "beak," and the brand has been stumbling ever since. The all new TLX sedan is supposed to be a revival for Acura as a serious alternative to the established luxury players. No one knows yet how the product will be, but from a pricing standpoint it appears they have already lost. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

It's that time again! I have in my inbox the official media photos from the FIA and manufacturers' photogs, which means it's time to share some rally porn, and man are there some gorgeous shots in this batch! If you're in need of a new wallpaper, you've come to the right place. As a bonus, Michelin and Portugal included their photos as well, and I got a couple photos from Subaru from Monte and Mexico. Let me know which photos and photo styles you like the most, so I have a better idea what kind of photos to include in future Rally Porn posts. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

If anyone from outside of the US could pick one type of vehicle to signify our great nation, it would be a big ol' pickup truck. But if they could pick two vehicles, the other would be a luxury SUV. More space and more dinosaur juice has become all but synonymous with our great nation, and our two contenders this week exemplify that mantra perfectly! Well, except for the fact that they're made by British and German companies, but who's counting? Luckily, thanks to the wonders of exponential depreciation of luxury vehicles, these two butt-hauling beauties can be had for less than $10K! !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Esmeralda is a 1967 European spec Beetle I bought off of my friend Jon a few months ago. It had been fully restored at one point, but was begining to show it's age. The engine was out of the car and halfway though a rebuild. The biggest problem, however, was a logistical one. It was two states away. I'm not a rich man so having it transported was out of the question. We had to go get it. The plan was to bring a running Volkswagen 1600 dual port engine with us, put it in using Jon's garage and tools, and drive it home. We brought a tow bar to make sure we had a way to get it home if that plan failed. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

The Swedes may have given the Volvo 1800ES a boring alphanumeric name, but the Germans call this model Schneewittchensarg, which translates literally to "Snow White's coffin." Add a Corvette V8 and suddenly the resemblance to a coffin becomes more than a little apropos. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Ask anyone to name a hot Italian hatchback and they'll probably say Lancia Delta Integrale. The Tipo Sedicivalvole shares much with the legendary Lancia. Not the turbo and 4 wheel drive sadly but much of the platform plus a 2.0 litre version of the Lampredi Twin Cam. But what does Sedicivalvole mean? Only the most important thing in late eighties/early nineties hot hatch badging; sixteen valves. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Sometimes you can stumble onto something interesting by total accident. Since the front undertray on my Dodge Charger is a little on the broken side, I wandered over to Mopar.com to price out a new one. And wouldn't you know it? While browsing their site, I found a photo of a car I can't exactly identify. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

I arrived at the StubHub Center in Carson, CA to the sound of screeching tires and throaty, snarling V8 exhausts. Jaguar's ALIVE Driving Experience had been touring around the country, and Los Angeles was its last stop. - !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about electric and plug-in hybrid cars. Despite our best efforts, my wife and I end up spending a considerable amount on gas each year. Whenever the price of gas goes up, we generally just have to bend over and take it. We all need to get around one way or another. Yes, some of us have the option of walking, biking, or public transit, but let's be honest here - there's nothing quite like the freedom that a set of wheels can bring. It's the American way. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Where to even begin with this car..... the Dodge Viper ACR turns more heads than almost any other car out there. If you don't like attention, then you should NOT be driving or riding in this car. Everyone, and I mean everyone was checking out this car. You simply cannot ignore its presence. Ray and his wife Leslie's 2010 Viper ACR is one of 4 built by ViperExchange - a commemorative "King of the Ring" special edition with the record-breaking Nurburgring lap time stitched onto the the headrests. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
