I like the Hummer H3.
It's slightly smaller than a 90s Tahoe, weighs less, but only makes 16 horsepower less (237) from it's inline 5 cylinder engine. Being basically a SUV Colorado, it was also available with a manual transmission! It looks better than the H2, thanks to it's smaller size and huge fender flairs.
The inside looks nice for a pre-bankruptcy GM vehicle, especially considering it's based on a Colorado interior. Navigation and leather were only some of the options available. You could go loaded or basic, it was your choice.
These aren't hard to find either. You can find 08 models with less than 80,000 miles for less than 15k, at least I did. Which isn't bad if you compare it to the $33,000 starting price when it was new.

The H3 was billed as "The hummer they should've built from the start" since yeah it doesn't use a gallon of gas just to get out of the driveway, is still very off road capable, can be seen out of and can be parked easily enough. I personally like the H3T more than the SUV but then again by that point it's almost as big as a silverado.

Someone around here owns an H3T, not a bad looking truck. But yeah, its about the size of my dad's Silverado.

I've always liked them. Never can go wrong with a manualbox.

Last manual GM SUV since the Blazer I think.

Ehhh, I wouldn't call that an SUV. I was think more truck-based than Uni-body.

I too like the H3. I really like the H3t. I saw the concept on 2003 and was just waiting for them to make it. How did that take 7 years to make?

They were on GM time. They shall not be rushed!

It's a shame the H3 is cramped and impossible to see out of.

It looks like it has a lotta glass on it. How's it so hard to look out of?

The glass isn't very tall, like in the Camaro
sm70- why not Duesenberg?

I can't say I'd buy an H3, but I certainly do respect it. It's a shame that this thing came out when it did with the badge it did, because, as themanwithsauce pointed out, it would've gotten Hummer off to a good start, or at least sold well if they'd waited until Hummer was dead and then called it the Blazer.

It was a shame, because it's a good little SUV with a badge that associates it with being a douchebag's car. I can't see it being a chevy really though.

It's a great little car. Mileage sucks, but who cares. You don't really buy a body-on-frame, 4x4 expecting to get good mileage. I get around 12 city and 18 highway with the 3.7L. It's one of the last full time 4 wheel drive cars. Also, it only shares something like 5% of it's parts with the Colorado. It's pretty much a reinforced version of the Colorado frame, but shorter.
I really like the small windows, it makes you feel like you're in some sort of military vehicle. They aren't great for seeing out of, but GM plastered on some of the largest side mirrors since the mid-80's to help with that. Seriously, they are stupid large. I think the mirrors alone affect the MPG significantly.
I use mine for storm chasing in the summer and it's prefect. Loaded up it weighs in right around 5,500 lbs.
Also, it can rock an Oppo sticker pretty well.

That looks awesome, really like the white and black theme. Does the 3.7 move it pretty well?
I really thought it used more than 5% of the Colorado's parts.

I have a book all about the H3 from concept to production. Apparently they tried using off the shelf parts at first, but they kept braking so they had to design new parts. The original design spec was 70% similar parts to the Colorado. But after it was all said and done, the production version shares less than 10%. (sorry I had the number wrong before, had to pull out my reference guide).
The 3.7 is pretty good. You don't win many drag races but it works well enough. 2006 had a 3.5L then they went to the 3.7L for 2007 onwards. You could get the H3 Alpha with the 5.3L V8, but they were pricey and most you see on the road are the 3.7L. It does feel a little underpowered in some situations but it's not anemic.

From 70% to a little less than 10% is a big jump, but at least they cared enough to make it tough enough to do some serious off-roading, even though hardly any of them see more than a dirt road.
I figured the 3.7 would be pretty good at moving it. Like I said, 16 more horsepower and you have the 5.7 GM used to move the heavier Tahoes in the 90s. The 220 horsepower the 3.5 made might be too little power though.

The first-gen Vue occured at the time when GM was parts-sharing with Honda. Their J35 engine with cast-iron internals and an AISIN gearbox made its way into the Vue.
