When you think of late 50's/early 60's American luxury, chances are you think of glamorous finned Cadillac convertibles and slab-sided Lincolns with suicide doors. But, as surely as the sun rises every morning, the big three all needed products to compete directly with each other's products. Thus, Chrysler had a luxury road liner to compete with GM and Ford- the 1960 Chrysler Imperial Crown Sedan.
Now, for those of you who have seen a few times I've gotten myself in a Jalopnik article, like !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! or !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , you would be forgiven for thinking I am a huge Imperial fan, a la !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Actually, I am not a particular fan of the Imperials, although I do find them kind of cool. This blacked sedan has fins that nearly rival a Caddy's, and a built-in spare tire in/on the trunk. The car sold at Gooding's 2011 Amelia Island auction for a trifle over $46k, a fraction of it's $80-110k value estimate. It's cool for sure, and it'll get you all the style of a Cadillac, plus an extra strange-factor, at a fraction of the price. But would you pay $46,200 of your hard-earned dollars for this American oddball?

I love every land yacht the big three ever built. However for that kind of money there are cooler land yachts on the market than a 1960 imperial. Like a Mark II Lincoln Continental http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/ca…

Bit pricey for my blood, but I do love the Exner cars. Minor nitpick: It's an Imperial Crown, Imperial was a separate division of Chrysler Corporation from 1955 through 1975.
