Dudebro - "that part you're looking for? I have one for sale"
me - "awesome! Your price is reasonable for a part of that sort that is in excellent condition. Is it in a condition that reflects the price?"
dudebro - "Yep it's great!"me - "how did you come by it?"
dudebro - "I bought it off a guy and it's been sitting ever since!"
me - "So if you've never driven on it, how do you know it's in perfect shape? This part is complicated and could require several hundred dollars in maintenance. If that is the case, your price is way too high. If I drive 2.5 hours to come look at it and find that it needs said work, will you be flexible on the price?"
dudebro - .........(silence)......
Here's a Cressida Wagon drifting for your time

I always do my haggling in person, people are much worse at turning down cash in hand.

True, but I don't want to waste my whole Saturday to drive all the way there and find out it's a pile and he won't budge on the price.

Shipping alone would be like $500. I live on the opposite coast.

Definitely understandable. What's he even asking?

He was asking $700 for the complete rear (everything including brakes and ebrake cables) which is on the high side of reasonable for one in good shape. I talked him down to $600, which I'm fine with if it's good. But he has no way of knowing one way or another since he's never driven on it and it's been sitting since 2007. It could need bearings, seals, rotors, calipers, pads, ebrake cables, and a whole new diff! If that's the case it's worth like maybe $300.

That's not bad, if they're in perfect condition. However, I agree, there's really no guarantee that you can just take those parts and use them, they'd very likely need reconditioning.

Even using something like Greyhound freight? That's shitty.

The axle is too big/heavy for Greyhound according to the website I was looking at.

Also, that $500 number I just pulled out of my ass. I have no idea how much it would cost, but it would certainly exceed my budget. I want this thing for $600 all in.

Huh. If there's anything around Cleveland, Ohio, I can hold it for you to pick it up. I have one in my garage for my buddy's Seven. Well, at least the subframe is in my garage, the axle/diff is in his.
