The single thing that makes building my Rover 4.2 tricky is that it's not *quite* a modern-style block (4.0/4.6). Same heads. Same block casting. Same mains caps. Said block-casting and caps are sort of unfinished on purpose (set up for cross-bolting, not drilled or bolted), and with a different bearing cut. Older-style mains bearings. Older style conrods as 3.9. Completely unique pistons to the 4.2... because. Old-style crank end, new-style oil pump, old-style cam with dizzy drive not driving the oil pump, new-style cam thrust setup sort-of halfway done.

All this is good for building a new-style (improved) engine with old-style anachronisms and a medium displacement. It just makes parts sourcing weeeeird.
