Do you know what really sucks? Chewing up the lips of expensive rims on a car. Do you know what sucks even more? When the rims in question are your brother's and attached to a vehicle he loves but let you borrow out of the kindness of his own heart. Not looking forward to that conversation. Any one know a good repair for curb rash?

Car pictured is different, but the wheels are largely the same.

Story is: I parked, was a dip shit and hit the curb with the wheel when pulling away. Epilogue: swearing.

failing that, gutter/curb rash is relatively easy to repair. Ask you local mechanics or bodyshop and they'll normally be able to recommend someone

I did that. On my TE37 reps. I nearly cried.

It's one of those feelings that is all out of proportion with how it affects your life – just shame and anger.

Meant originally in response to you, but my computer fuck Oppo up in strange ways: It's one of those feelings that is all out of proportion with how it affects your life – just shame and anger.

Thanks. I'll probably try to get it professionally done as my brother is more particular than these fellows. Hope it's not too much money.

it depends on the wheel, I had a pair fixed on my car when I bought it for $50 per wheel. They looked factory fresh after that. It was done by a guy in Bowral, NSW Australia. so.. probably not very helpful for you.

Location? Also, are the wheels actually 1552 baskets?

Check with your local body shops. This incident will serve as a reminder to keep steelies on your car or make sure you stay well and clear from the curb, and never let your girlfriend drive a car with nice wheels on it because the rims will end up scratched to all hell. . . .

On the wheel? The outer lip. And yes, they are.

SUPER shame. Like 5 people looked over and I was just wincing so hard and sinking down in the seat. The worst part is going to assess the damage.

I'm too absent minded for nice rims. I think I would be as much a danger to shiny things as any theoretical girlfriend.

Hit up google, find a wheel repair shop in the area with good reviews. Thats the only way, you can't buff this out.

Very much beyond buffing. It's not pretty.

I meant geographically. I used to know a few places on the East Coast that do wheel repair, even filling and re-polishing as necessary. If the extent of the damage is as bad as you suggest, it might be a good idea to contact 1552 (it's been a while since I was active in the VW scene, but they are, to my recollection, good people) and ask them if they have any suggestions for refinishers. The castings are a specific alloy, and if filling is necessary, then you'll (or whatever shop you choose will) want to know what the material is. Good luck with it!

Also: don't know why I called Snowflakes "baskets"...must be getting old.

If your girlfriend scratches your wheels it's time to find a new girlfriend.

Yeah, I'm in the wilds of northern British Columbia so I think it may be difficult to fid someone, but I will definitely try contacting 1552 and see what can be found. Thanks.
