Kinja'd!!!

I was driving the 2002 to class tonight. Hopped on 29 (Columbia, MD) and was greeted by an e46 M3 and a C5 ZO6. Sped up to pass the M3. It was tastefully modded and nicely stanced. Get next to the guy and through the tinted windows he was giving me a big thumbs up and a grin. This never happens. Keep pushing and head over the the left lane. ZO6 joins the fun and comes flying past me. I fall to the back, drop it down to third and catch up to the monsters. I pass the M3 once more before I reach my exit, yet again given a big wave and thumbs up. I don't know why, but something as simple as this made my day 10X better. I see people in M3s all the time and they don't even notice my car. But not this time. Just glad to share a moment like that.

Things like this are just great. It's the little things that really go a long way.

That's when you can tell a real car enthusiast who bought an E46 M3 from just some random douche.

Couldn't agree more. Bimmerfest was a bit of a disappointment last year. Bunch of M3 bros and homies in M6s with 22s.

Homies in M6s on 22s are the only M6s I see anymore :(

I don't care how much HP the new M6 has, it's still a pig. It was never really a sports car, but I don't even know what it is now. Bring back this

My mechanic just bought a pristine 88 M5 from Arizona. It's gorgeous. An inconspicuous black 4 door supercar.

Love it. I had a similar experience with an FR-S a couple weeks ago. I always try to give a thumbs up when I see a "special" car out, especially if it's a classic. Spread the love, everyone. It's not a competition; we're all in this together.

On one of my first rides out with my new WRX I got a quick wave from another passing WRX. I try to wave to other WRX's now and its probably 50/50 if I get one in return.

I would buy another if I had the money. I know there are many options out there. Miatas are golden, but if you want something unique, fun, and cheap to fix/maintain, I couldn't think of a better car. If you look you can find good ones for $5K, if you want a project car just wait long enough for someone to sell a shell for $500. My 2002 was my first car. I had no plan on buying it. I wanted a 65-68 mustang. Drove to NC (I live in MD) with my mom to test drive a 67 289 coupe w/ auto. It was a piece of shit. And the guy was asking $17K I really shouldn't have met my hero. Then my grandmother was getting gas one day and the 2k2 pulls in. She comments, guy says he thinking about selling it. One thing lead to another and I'm test driving it and it fells as tight as a rubber band. It's a great platform that can easily be improved. I still have the original single barrel carb pushing 90-100hp, and it's a blast. I have a double pumper that I will get rebuilt and put on there eventually. It's a lot of fun. I would definitely recommend it. I just tried to add an 'if' to the last sentence, but I couldn't. You can DD it, it's idiot proof (I'm not very knowledgeable about mechanics), easy to upkeep, and very enjoyable. And scenarios such as the above one, make it even better.

I saw one on craigslist for $1800 and I am seriously considering it is a 76. Can I see some pics of yours?

What's your budget? These cars usually sell undervalue so spending a bit more is worth it.

Honestly that one seems a little too expensive. I would wait for a cleaner one to come around. I found this one, it's more money, but it would make the project much easier than a rust bucket. I would recommend searching autotempest-craigslist for old 2002s. You will find rust free ones for good prices. Might need work elsewhere, but you won't spend your time replacing all the metal.

If it runs, offer 1200-1400. It's up to you.

thanks for your help I will have to think on it a little more. If it is rust all the way through I will just have to wait for another one

I would wait. You can and will find better and you might even have a few more buck to buy someone's unfinished project. Jest religiously search craigslist in the midwest and California.

Getting "the wave" always brightens my day, that is how you can tell who is an enthusiast and who is an elitist.
