Car brands harking back to former glory days ain't a noughts thing- unless you include the 1900s.
Oldsmobile knew its 1905 In my Merry Oldsmobile jingle was a well remembered hit, so they decided to give it another whirl in a rather bizarre cartoon in 1931- complete with Curved Dash live action that was nostalgic even then.
Conclusion after watching it:
Prohibition era moonshine does bad things to your head
Karaoke – bouncing ball on lyrics included – is considerably older than the '80s
What in the world does 'Automobubbling' mean?
The olds from 1905 were considerably racier than the ones from 1931 (or even 2014). Check out what the cartoon doesn't include:
Verse 2
They love to "spark" in the dark old park
As they go flying along
She says she knows why the motor goes
The "sparker" is awfully strong
Each day they "spoon" to the engine's tune
Their honeymoon will happen soon
He'll win Lucille with his Oldsmobile
And then he'll fondly croon...
Chorus
Come away with me, Lucille
In my merry Oldsmobile
