GM's daily recall: What's next my Trans Am?

They recalled some more cars today. Apparently some people could pull the keys out of the ignition cylinder while the engine is running which apparently can lead to getting out of your car while it is in drive or in some gear. Lesson: people don't know if their car is running or not (what dumbasses). My Trans Am (and many GM cars from the '70s) does this. Does that mean I deserve a recall too?

Side note: It is really fun to be on a date/with friends and casually pull the keys out of the ignition and calmly ask them to hold these. I did that many times while my T/A was on the road. The majority of them freaked out. Good times...

Cars nowadays are so dull and quiet, not many people will know the difference of it being on or off.

My dad's '06 Boxster did this. When I went to grab the key and it just came out, I died laughing.

My sister's Nissan Primera does this.

You can also start it with the handle of a teaspoon, or a twig or something similar.

Perfectly safe though. Who would want to steal a Nissan Primera?

there probably was a recall on your bird at one point. My 68 did for inadequate motor mounts that could easily break esp true on big block cars

Does the steering lock up if you take it out like Police Crown Vics?

As long as you don't turn the ignition to the off position you're good. You can't restart the engine without the key either.

My E36 kept running once after I turned the igntion to the off position and pulled out the key, then I disconected the battery and it was still going, then I had to pull my fuel pump fuse. I would have stalled it out, but I was parked to close to the vehicle in front, so it would have hit it on the lurch. I couldn't back up because then I would have blocked traffic.

Interesting. Know where I could find out? I'd love to see what GM screwed up on my car (other than most of it).

Jesus, how long did GM use those type of keys? I have the same ones for the Van, and it's a 94. Lemme guess, the door one is sort of ovalish instead of square?

My trunk is oval and the door/ignition should be square (mine don't match - new steering column). I think the design started in the late 60s?

I could only turn mine to accessory. My aunt always had a fat ass bunch of keychains though. It was the 80's. It matched her hair.

Looks like you deserve a recall too for heavy keychains! Is it bad I find this GM recall stuff rather funny. Well, not funny, just ashamed at the stupidity of the human race (at the drivers of the cars, not the engineers)

I usually drive around with them out of the ignition just because I don't like the sound of keys jangling or potentially brushing up against my leg.

Ha ha yea. I used to have to use a screwdriver on my uncles old chevy cause he lost the keys for it. Love those ignitions

I've owned several Toyotas from the 80 that I could remove the keys while the car was running. You could also start them with just about anything that fit in the keyhole.
