Ok, so the worst has happened, I need to put money into my 2007 Mazda6S hatch before I ditch it in the fall for a Canyon.
Needs rear shocks.
NAPA $51ea
Mazda $130ea
NAPA was delivered to my work today if I wanted.. they don't know I work right down the road so I'll just pick them up when I leave work.
At Mazda they are one day away *special order*.. which I'll assume means their apprentice isn't in until tomorrow to go grab them off a shelf.
But emailing Mazda to get their hilarious price was worthwhile because this:
I don't think I've ever seen that, the MazdaSpeed 55 Concept.
Edit: I think it would be fun to get quotes on parts for a car.. like every part, and see what it would cost to build a car solely by order from a dealership Parts-Service Department

Too bad you didn't ask me.
EDIT: $78.23 each MSRP
(we don't stock them either, but I would have discounted them)

What brand of shocks were they?

Oh I went for the absolute best, Monroe! lol
Even still Mazda priced me at about 2x what OEM replacements are online.
I would have bought used if it weren't for the 'tards on Kijiji

I would love to 'field car' this car, but it's still worth about $7-8k on trade in. That's all it's ever been to me, a dollar sign, needed to maintain as much resale as I could, then someone swiped it a little down the driver door and front fender while it was parked and that dream went out the window.

See that is a reasonable price for OEM replacements. I pitty people who go to the dealer to get their brakes done, that has to be the biggest money grab:one of the easiest jobs.

I have some 'friends' who could come by and 'steal' your car and get you some insurance $... lol.

The problem is dealers who set their own mark-ups on parts. :/
$130 a piece is NUTS.

I think getting 'softly' T-boned sometime around October would be best case scenario for this car. The Canyon should be on dealership lots by then and insurance can give me more than what trade-in value would be. If it gets stolen the insurance companies in Ontario would still find a way to blame the owner and jack their premiums.

Yup, when I replaced the PCV valve back in January I emailed both Ford and Mazzy as well as NAPA. I can't remember the exact prices between Ford and Mazda, one was cheaper by $8 but it would take a week to get, and the other was around $40 and could *special order* it for "tomorrow". NAPA "in stock, $12, we can drop it off"

Also the benefit with Napa is they have many many stores linked together, so they can see what sells and what doesn't. Plus they're selling to a bigger audience. The dealer does not. So they only have what they sell. And if Napa down the street is cheaper, no one is buying from the dealer, therefore no demand is created.
Even though I work here, I hate how we're stuck in the 70's retail mindset. I like what Tesla is doing. Eliminate the common dealer.
