Nope, I don't like it. I guess it's OK on the FP.. here on Oppo though? Nope, sorry.. do not like it. The FP already have a problem with haters and shit flingers. We don't have that here on Oppo, and I like it that way. There is a reason people (including myself) no longer participates in the discussions on the FP.

This makes me want to make a post entitled "go fuck yourself." I would then invite people to the post who made me cross.
I get the distinct impression that this idea will not go over well.

That is clearly the intended use case.

This is acceptable for the FP, but I definitely don't want this around Oppo.
Oppo is our safe haven. Last thing we need is shit disturbers and trolls from the FP and other unknown locations to show up here.

Hey - We don't foresee this having any negative impact on your community. I'd love to better understand your concerns. Can you tell me more?

Hey - Can you tell me more about how you see this negatively impacting Oppo?

How would that possible work?

(Hypothetically speaking) I can see it being used negatively if somebody on Oppo wants more page views or needs a friend to back up a point they are trying to make, inviting one of their twitter friends and things getting out of hand.
Not sure how familiar you are with Oppo, but we're all pretty level headed here and we have a set of rules that are pretty strictly abided by. Personally, I don't want a random twitter user to be invited to a debate and start a shit storm around here.
Maybe I just don't yet see the positive possibilities of the Twitter invites. I'll keep an open mind about it, though.

Oh man... Now Lauren B. is asking me to tell more.. I'm not that well versed in the language of the queen, so stuff may or may not be spelled wrong here.
Anyway, I like how Oppositelock is a rather close knitted group, I don't mind new members, but so far we've been able to sort that stuff through moderators and such. With this twitter integration "we" have no control of who/what enters the chat, in my eyes this would lead to the same problem we have on the FP (Jalopnik), I.E trolls galore.. People without rudimentary knowlegde when it comes to how one should behave in such a community.. I accept the fact that Gawker is a company, and that this means that the more people the more money. but PLEASE just let us have this ONE tiny free haven from all the trolls out there, I beg you.

I will take the title of Queen if you wish to bestow it upon me.
I really do appreciate the information. It helps us figure out the best way to introduce new features.
One thing that's important about invites, and potentially something that wasn't made entirely clear in my post, is that the only people who will be invited in are the people that you choose to invite.
When I write a post or reply, I can invite a specific person into the post. That person, and that person only, will be approved in my group chat. If someone else clicks on the link, they'll just end up in the all replies section.
It shouldn't bring in a deluge of new users unless you choose to invite them in.

I'm glad we're on the same page here and hopefully some other Oppo folk will chime in to support what we're saying.

I hear that. But, our thought is that if an author really wanted to abuse Oppo in that way, they'd do it with or without invites.
On the other hand, invites will allow you to make sure the replies from the people you care about are elevated to the top of the page. You can use invites to loop in a friend from Oppo, Jalopnik, or real life who might have something interesting to say. And you know that their reply won't get buried because their replies will be automatically approved.
Right now invites are limited to Twitter, but you can imagine in the future the tool could allow you to easily invite another Kinja user, or a friend over email.
I appreciate your keeping an open mind and please do keep sending your feedback.

You can be the Queen of the IT-department if you so wish ;) It was more the fact that English is my third language, not that it matters.
I understood how the twitter integration would work, and I'd never use it in any group chat. I'm more worried about the friends of other people, how can we be sure they are not trolls? Let's say that the Arch Duke who I consider a friend, invites a friend, how can we be sure said friend won't cause a shitstorm? I don't understand WHY you want to implement this on Oppo.. We're mostly friends here, why not keep it that way? Let people ask the mods if they wanna dicuss stuff?

If I'm honest I don't think it matters shit all what we think, what Denton says/wants Denton gets.. I hope we can make a differnce, but the hope ain't high.

Sorry to invade a thread that's not mine here, but we've already had instances of people using crosspost to promote stuff that don't really belong on Oppo.. Do not know how it happened or why, but we've had a person cross posting stuff from somewhere else on gawker onto oppo to get more views, luckily we caught it early on and rectified it. This was a while back, so I don't remember the name and stuff. But someone from another Gawker blog made a crosspost about indonesian food... Not that we'd not be interested in that stuff.. but it was clearly a self promotion.

Definitely. Nothing we say matters at all and I'm sure of that!
Well, we're just going to have to see where this leads and hope for the best. I'm skeptical, though.

The only person who'd be able to crosspost to Oppo would be an author of the blog. Hopefully, you don't get too many rogue authors.

Before we just used the admins to keep the users reasonable. I think most people on Oppo are against this, so hopefully we just won't use it...and keep calm and Oppositelock on!
