So this Elan is fantastic. What a great restoration.
In other news, my probable-soon-to-be father-in-law has an old Elan hanging out in a shed in England and asked me if I wanted it.
I said no... because Lucas electrics. I think I might change my mind now...

Haha well I'm pretty sure I can fenagle myself through anything mechanical. Electronics? Ugh I don't even want to mess with em. The hardest thing I did was install a new radio... which was actually quite easy. For me the whole 'troubleshooting' part of electronics just makes me want to hide in a cave.

There are two tricks to defeating vehicle electronics:
1: A good multifunction am/volt/ohmmeter
2. Starting from scratch and not even attempting to fix what's already present.

1. Check.
2. Duly noted haha. That's what I figured would need to be done if something wasn't working. Which... it's been sitting in a shed for years... so I doubt everything is working.

Full disclosure: I've never actually done number 2, I'm just too terrified of vehicle electronics to see it happening any other way.

I'm an EE, and feel the same way (if it is an older car). No way in hell am I re-doing my e36. For that car I have a pocket oscilloscope and an electronic trouble shooting manual for the car.

Oh god, the thought of redoing anything even remotely modern gives me the heebie jeebies.

If you have an Elan in England going spare, I'll have it! :)
