So my girlfriend likes designer clothes. All good, I like nice cars, she likes nice clothes. Deal. So she sends me a link the other day for a new line Kate Spade has come out with called Monaco. Some actually really nice race car themed prints. BUUUT look at the handbag associated with it. Speeding, overheating, and out of gas. Ms. Spade, before you go sell $400 handbags you need to consult the experts at Jalopnik. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

According to the gauges the owner of that handbag is hot & fast and has very little gas. Beats the hell out of being cold & slow and full of gas I suppose...

Maybe the idea was that towards the end of a race your car is hot from running it hard, you've used all your fuel, and it's a vintage race because the speed is only 75? I hope?

Anyway, I might be in trouble, since my wife happens to love everything Kate Spade at the moment. But I guess at least it has an automotive flavor to it...

I think my motorcycle would have to be on fire to be that overheated and going that slow.

the dress is actually pretty nice. Hide all the plastic though because that is $400 too

PSA: don't buy any mid tier designer stuff for the SO on a whim at full price!! Stalk Rue La La, HauteLook, Gilt, etc and get it at deep discount. If it's a birthday present and they're set on one thing though... At least drop some hints about something of similar value you'd like for your next birthday.

argh butterfingers on mobile... Not a handbag person so I only have one, and it's a leather Marc Jacobs so it was worth every cent of the full price I dropped on it almost 5 years ago as a post-internship present to myself. Never again though.

yeah that is how I look at it. If the quality is good retail is worth every cent. And that way you dont have to replace it. I payed full retail for a pair of Mephisto shoes 10 years ago. Almost $500. Been resoled and finished once for $130 and are still my go to shoes for everything. I bought some Cole-Haan for almost that much and they lasted 4 months. It is too bad most designers these days go for the flash and not quality. Ralph Lauren syndrome

Kate Spade has an outlet store in the same town as the track I usually go to.

That's dangerous. Very dangerous.
