Well guys, I just paid off my Jeep but now I am in a conundrum. I just got promoted but will now be commuting about 80 miles/day. My Jeep gets 15 mpg's (really about 17 highway). I am thinking #1 I need something a little better on the highway.. the Jeep gets blown all over by wind and just literally is not fun to drive on the highway. So I request you guys to help me find something used in my price range that's reliable, fuel efficient and most of all, cost effective. My price range is around 12k, the cheaper the better of course.
Now the one major problem... it needs to be able to go in snow (I am talking mountain snow, I am from Michigan and I know snow tires blah blah blah), so keep it AWD or FWD. There is a big "hill" half way through the commute that can get snow covered and some people have issues.
Thanks for caring and your recommendations!

Wrx would cover your needs. however, finding a well-cared for/not abused one is another story. That or an r32...omg dat burble.... Beautiful car, great handling, better interior, and very comfortable. Later comes with a ground clearance issue. I'm in Worcester mass in a similar hill/snow situation and went though the same decision process with similar functional limitations.

Hey, a fellow Michigander! I'm in the same boat as you, I drive ~80 miles/day, and I am also looking for a 2nd car that would be fuel efficient, yet fun. The closest I got to a perfect car is a '04-'08 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 3.8L engine (city/hwy 18/28). From what I hear, these are great engines and those years were the best years for the Grand Prix. Though if GM decides to recall it...well yeah...
Not sure what county you're in (I'm in Livingston), but if you live in the country (like me), you arn't going to find too many non-GM/Chrysler/Ford vehicles for sale. It also brings up the question that, "if I get a *non-GM/Chrysler/Ford* car, will parts be plentiful/cheap enough for me to get/make repairs easily?" Though if you live by a city, this doesn't necessarily apply to you. Just my two cents.
