So... what's that mean? The government might impound it?

http://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/cto/440790…

It is an inline six w/ 5spd manual. I like.

This sort of car is on my list as a possible future-fun-car, not opposed to the V12 either. I like the looks of these and they are available as convertible.

Nope, should be fully legal, just means it wasn't dealer imported/federalized - assuming the paperwork checks out. Imported through unofficial channels, and (supposed to be) altered to match US spec. The Motor Vehicle Safety Compliance Act was '88.

Edit to clarify: alteration didn't used to have to be carried out be a licensed modifier, etc., and you really just had to import, list changes made for US spec (in theory the correct ones), and file paperwork.

My neighbor has one of these. He also has a '59 Corvette and a '66 Mustang.

He says he's gotten it running 4 or 5 times since he's owned it. His wife claims once. Be careful with these V12's, they're glorious headaches.

Haha yeah, I think I heard the straight sixes are more reliable?

My moms boyfriend ran a V12 for maybe half a year and by that I mean he was able to drive it regularly on weekends, without trouble. (much wow)

It's always possible the greymarket paperwork never got filed or that the modifications aren't correct or other bullshit is present, but at this point it's >25 years old anyway, so your likelihood of hassle is probably low. I know a friend of my dad's had a greymarket Benz that still had euro headlights on, because zero fucks were given. While in theory the government saying "yeah, okay" to something illegal doesn't clear it, I don't think you're likely to get any real problems as long as they *did*.

Yeah I am not too worried about it, especially being in Michigan where there are no inspections and some half-asleep SOS worker hands out titles without batting an eye. At anything.

Also regarding the headlights, if I were to get this vintage of XJS I'd want to swap on the older split headlights, I find them sexier.

My god... This thing is just overall, really sexy... Those wheels, and those headlights, nom!

My project diff came out of an '82-'85 H.E. Coupe being parted out (sad) - I think it was a split-light. If so, those lights are definitely going begging. If you do pick this up, contact Dave Boger of EverydayXJ, he probably has some if not from that particular cadaver.

unfortunately where I live right now there is no room for a second car. So right now I am just dreaming of a future where a 2nd car will be possible.

My dad once called this "the only ugly car Jag ever made".

I called that "the only time I almost punched my own father in the nose".

hahaha, that's funny. Although in certain trims or at the hands of unclassy owners bad things can happen to these. But they can also be incredibly good looking cars
