I thought the transfer case was gear driven? I haven't played with it much, but I always thought it was gear, not chain. the cams are chain driven though.

Looks like you're right. Shows how much I know about my transfer case. I think this will prompt me to change my gear oil this weekend.

yeah, I haven't messed with it, but I saw the pictures for the marlin crawler gear install and it looked like pure gear.

Did you ever decide on swapping your axle gears? My recent project has been figuring out how to get my hands on some decent 37" military surplus tires.

im adopting a wait and see. Im going to get my lift on and fix a few issues, then take it for a test pull when I get my trailer registered and my brake controlled installed and find out how bad its going to be. $2600 is a lot for a small gear reduction (plus front axle rebuild and new rotors)

Indeed it is. I've pulled a 6,000 lbs boat with mine running 35's and while it was no rocket ship it went 60 MPH on the flats just fine. Don't have any experience with hills but judging from the one time I drove her over I-70 they could be a deal breaker. Good luck!

I pulled a 6500 lbs boat from the water down the street once at 6000 feet.

and I think I got up to 45, though it took a while.

Granted the trailer is only 3350 gvwr, but its a biggie
