Got these in my mailbox this past Wednesday and wanted to post them over the weekend, but I've been a bit busy to take any decent pictures, so I'll just stock ones for now:
1970 Chevrolet Nova SS by Johnny Lightning
Featured in the High Impact Muscle series, which is about Muscle Cars and High Impact colors, this Nova comes in Hugger Orange, with a matching orange car cover.
1972 Plymouth Duster 340 by Johnny Lightning
Also featured in the High Impact Muscle series, this Duster is... huh, white, which doesn't really strike me as High Impact, but whatever. Came with a matching white car cover.
1937 Ford by Johnny Lightning
This little Hot Rod was featured on JL's "original" Hot Rods series from 2000 which was actually their second attempt at Hot Rods, using brand new castings as opposed to older, retooled castings used in the 90's.
Now, comparing these three cars, I couldn't help but wonder if JL's demise hadn't been coming for a while. All three cars were among the hundreds of new tools released by JL in the early 2000's, a big turning point for the brand. But the Ford is the very first release of that tooling, while the Nova and Duster are much more recent, and the quality drop from the first, a solid, well built and fitted car with smooth rolling wheels, to the latter two, which came out of the package with paint flaws, poorly fitted hoods and bent axles, is shocking to say the least. The Nova sits awkwardly with a half open hood, while the Duster's hood snapped right off when I tried to close it and the only thing I could do was glue it in place. Not cool. The sad part is that I also have the original release of the 1970 Nova, and it's ages ahead of its younger relative in quality. Now, I'm not these are bad or disappointing models, but they aren't without without their flaws, specially when compared to the wicked quality of the earlier releases. So, a fair warning I guess; when buying JLs, always favor the earlier releases of each car, but stay away from the 90s castings:

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention it above, but legend has it that Nova is actually based on a real car featured on the Super Chevy or Hot Rod magazine, which is not totally surprising, since JL had several magazine themed series.
But yeah, that Nova is pretty badass, and it makes an awesome set with the Duster and the other cars in the High Impact series, a blue 68 Javelin and a green 69 Mustang

Ah, sorry, these aren't up for trade, at least for the time being... They're just updates to the garage. :p
