'big' boats just never really got me going.... I mean yeah they're fast, but I'm sure it feels more intense to be on something smaller going a bit slower. I've done 28kts on a Corsair 28R and I think I'd take that anyday.

Why not? I haven't been keeping up too much with what's happening in NZ, but I thought they were coming back to San Francisco in 2015. Are they changing boats again?

It's waaay too expensive for a majority of the teams and thus, the America's Cup has become a very exclusive sport in which Oracle is playing their own game. Even Team New Zealand have funding issues so maybe they need to dumb it down just for the sake of international sport - rather than a game by a rich man who happens to have some of the best international sailors representing a country called 'Merica.
