I'm not sure if there's a stiff-upper-lip British colonial era keeping-one's-end-up group out there respectful of the m'emsah'b, but there needs to be. Unless wearing the chin strap - in which case the ladies will excuse it not being tipped. Also, one tips one's hat at all women, they being rare in the bush/jungle and whatnot.

British expeditionary hipster: wears mutton chops, carries single-shot rifle, and looks with suspicion at all others not in uniform. Also blathers in an ornery manner about the Boers and India.
