So as an update to the little beater that could I bought a few months ago, all is looking well.
Ran into a few issues, but in total I:
Bought the car for 1200 bucks.
Used winter tires 60, balancing 12.
Found a set of eibach springs close to oem ride hight at the junkyard, 15 each rear spring, 20 each front coilover, 20 bucks lift time, back to stock rode and no broken spring.
The front right outside pad disintegrated on me, and before that the caliper was seized. 20 bucks to pull used pads to hold me over, 85 euro for 2 new rotors and pad sets, and some time freeing the rotor from rust and they're good as new.
Radiator was cracked as hell, 25 bucks pulled a used one that pressure tested good.
Guy said the windshield sprayers were busted, just a line to reconnect.
All in all Ide call it around 1600 with all the lift time, and I decided to stress test it this weekend with a long autobahn drive, around an hour and a half total drive, saw some sights along the way.
I am actually impressed with how this thing has composed itself. It's only a 318, but that little 4 banger held us at 180 kph for whole lengths of unrestricted highway, at one point up to around 10 minutes. And the gearing tops out at around 210, so it was holding 5k rpms the whole time.
Then I got cocky. Decided to push it on our last downhill section before our exit. Hit 200 kph and backed off, and the temp gauge pinged in the red. Turns out all I did was pop a coolant hose off the heater core. Slid it back on and tightened the hose clamp it it was good to go.
So all that is left it the random leaks here and there that I can fiddle with whenever I get the time. More than I was hoping to spend to get a fully functional highway car, but not bad either way.
On an awesome note, I was doing 180 kph when a testarosta casually strolled on by, then promptly dis a fuckin peared over the horizon. Godspeed you beautiful bastard.
