At a car show today, saw a base C6 coupe and a lightly modded C5Z next to each other. It got me thinking.

Which would you rather get? Assuming you could swing the few grand more for a base C6, what would you do? In person, the base C6 looks pretty damn nice, and updated compared to the C5Z, but the Z is a bit more unique.

I had always assumed I would shoot for a first sports car as a C5Z, but I'm questioning that now. The base C6 does seem somewhat compelling still, hitting mid-upper 20's for a decent example. C5Z's are going for 20-25k right now for good examples.

I'm not longer certain about what I will be shooting for.

Matt Farah can help you decide which is best.

C6. The C5 is just too damn big. And, if I'm going to have to suffer through the two most Fisher Price interiors to ever plague the Corvette, I'd rather have the newer one.

The LS2 and LS3 are also so close in performance to the LS6 that it makes spending on the C5Z almost daft.

The versatility of the T-Top is worth way more to me than the chassis in that Z. I'd take the C6 and mod it. In my mind, I see a C6 version of Matt Farah's vette.

C5Z is my dream car. Plus, headlights go up, headlights go down.

I think the C5 exterior looks better, C6 interior looks better. I would choose the C5Z. I just can't look at the C6 headlight everyday. It's the 996 of Corvettes to me.

Great video. I'd probably take the modded C5 over a stock base C6. The mods add a personal touch that makes the car seem more likable to me. Not to mention who want a base model anything? I'm all for having less crap in a car, but something about knowing I'm in a 'base model' takes some of the fun away for me.

C6 all day long. First off its one of my favorite cars, secondly the interior of the C5 looks similar to the interior of my S10. Cheap ass GM circa 1997

agreed, that video helped a lot.

I also don't really care for creature comforts- why the hell buy a 'vette for that??? that's why you get a porsche.

this is a good point. there are also ways to stiffen the chassis like farah did.

Ugh, I prefer the looks of the C6 but the C5Z's engine is tough to pass up...

I'd take the C6. The C5 is my least favorite of the Corvettes. Relative to other Corvettes, I don't love its looks or interior. The C6 on the other hand is a nice evolution of the Corvette, and while still cheap, the interior at least looks much better.

I'd take the C5Z over a base c6. A base C6 is a base C6.

C6 hands down... The C5 was always an... awkward period for Corvettes in my opinion, not sure why.

Right. Unless it's strictly a track toy, I'd say C6 is the way to go. But I would be using it to rip through the back roads with my wife in the passenger seat and enough luggage for the weekend in the trunk. So in that case, the versatility of the base c6 makes way more since to me.

after all this I think I've realized a coupe c5 modified with the saved money tocustomize how I want it, easily faster than base c6 for track day oR Lighter cruisiNg

For a track car, you're pretty much always better going for the lighter, cheaper, option because it will get thrashed on. A c5z is actually has the same performance as a c6 grand sport. So that kind shows the potential of the c5. It's going to be harder to find a good base c5. but it could be worth it for your needs. In most cases, I have heard the c6 is a little more bulletproof though. Just what I've heard. But bear in mind, it's pretty much either going to be a good cruiser or good track car. The only way to actually have both is with magnetic ride.
