Guy with !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! calls me today and says "sorry, sold it out from under you without saying a word, go fuck yourself."
Not literally, of course, but might as well have. Meanwhile still zero interest in the Mustang. Sigh.

So you were going to buy the car, and he sold it even though he knew that?

same thing happened to my father inlaw. He was going to buy this guys motorcycle, he had literally just went to the bank to get the finances in order when the guy called him to let him know that he traded it in instead. CL sucks.

That is the inherent nature of craigslist.

Yeah. Our schedules didn't line up this weekend or next week, so I said I'd be up to buy (roughly hour drive) next weekend.

#1 rule of Craigslist, don't expect anyone to hold something for you (unless you gave a deposit).

nah i know, but it doesn't make this guy selling the cleanest, cheapest NA on cl out from under me any easier.

it was some hopelessly old fucker in the villages. all his emails were in all caps and he couldn't hear me very well over the phone when he called.

You're not the first person to say that. Someday, I'll probably look back on it like my dad looks back on his ex '64, '67 GTO, and '69 Chevelle (his first three cars). I had planned on continuing to save to get a dd that's not a bike and keep this, throw some ITB's and a roll bar on it and enjoy it for years. But just like him, I'm not one for regret. I'd rather do what's best for me and my family now. I sincerely hope I see this car in 20/30 years either in my garage, or going across an auction block, or at a Cars & Coffee. I would love for the world to see a car that was built to run on gasoline that had the character and smile-factor of a British roadster, but ran great every time you turned the key. I lived off those stories from my dad, as a kid.

Well, at least they responded. I didn't get shit when I found that ZR-1, and found out it sold when I checked the Carfax again.

Polish those headlights, do a little touch up here and there and throw some better looking wheels on that Mustang and I'd bet it would sell faster. I've followed that advice successfully for years now. Somehow a nice set of wheels and attention to detail helps them sell everytime for me. Best of luck to you.

yeah, i mean, i know you're right. these awful 3/6 whatever spoke wheels have been the worst part about the car since i've gotten it. any tips to pick up different wheels on the cheap?

Mustang forums, salvage yard or.........CL (ducks after saying that to be safe).

yeah, figured. the problem is those wheels and tires are some god awful 15" size, something like 245/55/15, so that's new wheels and new tires.
thanks for the tip though. i'll definitely look into scrapyards, i got one in mind.

They're not hard to find in 15", it was the standard wheel size for most cars for many years. Look for some Welds, Jegs, Centerlines or any one of a dozen other wheel manufacturers. You can get Jegs 15" wheels for a pretty good price new even.

These wheels and tires are on my local CL for $140. You think they're any better?
I'd keep my current tires to drive around on obv, swap em out when it's time to sell

Yes, I think they are much better than the tri-bars. I'd either clean them up and polish them or repaint them the factory silver color.
