I am going to start commuting about 70 miles a day and the E39's gas mileage is not very attractive so I would need to change soon maybe before the year ends.
I am considering these for fuel efficiency:
price not being a huge downside as I work for BMW and can lease the 228i for about the same payment as the BRZ. I have been in the industry for a while so I have connections for the Subaru also.
What other sport coupe/sedan do you recommend I look at?

BRZ should be out of the question if you can get the BMW for the same price.

id say try and get the diesel 3 series. gas mileage will be unbelieveable.

Those are awesome choices! Since you work for BMW why not consider this too:
320i 23/33mpg

Yep, I'd definitely go the diesel route.

I was thinking that also but it just gets lost in a sea of 3-series' if that makes sense.

Toyota/Subaru > BMW in terms of reliability and shit, but if you need a sunroof then you have to pick the asshat car unfortunately :(
Awesome that you work for BMW though! Is the entire parking lot marked as handicapped stalls? Are there even lines to denote spaces? :p

Since you work for BMW, that sort of automatically rules out any German car that isn't a BMW.
I would suggest looking at the RWD CTS Coupe and the RWD ATS (if you haven't already). There's also Lexus, but I don't know anything about them. I don't like Infiniti, they felt rubbish inside; not worth the price. The 370Z is worth considering, but it doesn't sound nice and there are better-feeling options from others.
I don't know how far up or down the market you prefer, because there's still the usual suspects from Honda, Ford, and Chevrolet to consider. I don't know how bad is bad to you for fuel economy. I daily a C4 Corvette, and I consider it pretty good on gas considering I drive in crawling traffic every day. 20 gallon tank, 12-14 gallon fill once a week driving 44 miles five times a week.
For me, it would be a fight between the Camaro SS 1LE and CTS Coupe RWD Performance. One comes with a manual, one does not. Me being all but completely disinterested in what the luxury experience is about, I'd probably go Chevy.
Edit: Believe it or not, the Dodge Dart is quite a bit of fun. I'd also recommend that. It also has the broadest selection of engine/transmission options, with three different displacement motors to choose from and an array of transmissions that includes a traditional auto, DCT, and manual. Also, it comes in orange.

Hard to say.. value wise, sounds like you should go with the BMW.
But, driving wise... I'm driving a 3 series right now, but owned an FR-S before it. I miss the FR-S every day - wish things would have worked out differently, but one day i'll go back to it, for sure.
