I have to say that I'm reasonably pleased with the outcome! I can definitely improve and the paint scheme was pretty simple overall, but here we are! From this:

to this:

Next on the list:

Fox body Boss 302, and an M1 in a livery I haven't decided yet. Either an interpretation of the BASF, classic M colors, or the Warhol art car. I might do a Porsche 935 in Apple/Martini/Gulf/Rothmans livery as well.

I'm about to do my 1993 F1 car in the livery of the player car from F1: ROC for SNES. Hope it turns out as nice as this one.

I had similar results repainting a Mini to be red from the ridiculous livery it originally wore. I read an article about stripping the paint off with chemicals down the base metal so I'm going to try that out next!

i have that mini too! Never seen it anywhere else! The body is plastic right?

I stripped this camaro bare with acetone but that didnt work too well on the next hot wheels i tried it on. Might try the aircraft stripper spray next. Lots of people just lightly sand the paint though, but then you might obscure the details since the paint layer will be thicker.

I love the classic Mini so I've got a few of these in the blue livery and an Italian Job white and some of the different body shape (the one with more realistic proportions) in red and another in dark blue. This particular one is indeed plastic so I just sanded it down a bit to rough it up. This particular Mini actually has a button on the bottom that pops the body shell off of the "roll cage" style chassis so I didn't even have to remove any rivets!

I'm not sure where to get aircraft stripper but that'll be what I do next. I always find great Hot Wheels cars at Walmart but they always have ridiculous paint jobs so I'd love to just use the spray paint for my Revell model cars all over them.

i have a red matchbox mini, but it has a ridiculous roof. Maybe i'll do an italian job to it!

I think you can get the stripper at autoparts stores, and walmart definitely has spray-on strippers as well.

I hadn't really even heard of spray-on strippers. I poked around at Walmart last night but wasn't really sure what to look for. I'll definitely have to check that out, thanks! I'm excited that I don't have to worry about paint defects (it's quite a task picking out which one is the least defective of the half dozen of each car) anymore because I can just strip it down and change the color entirely.
