Today I got an LG G2. I like it so far. Still trying to get to it though. We shall see. Got tired of Apples gangster tactics.

The iOS vs Android fanboy wars are still being waged full force in the comment sections of engadget. It's like a time capsule over there. Sad to see.

Sounds nice! I had a Gs2 before I switched to my 4S. I'm thinking of switching to that awesome Nokia thingy with a 42Mp Camera though.

"Apples gangster tactics"
Such as providing continued OS upgrades in a timely fashion? Lol.

I think he's refering to their well know policy of enforcing obsolescence. Restricting new features from older devices because 'yeah, time for you to buy the new iThingy now.' is something they've been doing since before the Cook administration, and as a previous iThingy owner, yeah, I found that shit irritating as well.

You mean the same upgrades that brick the older phones that can no longer support it?

Sometimes a processor can't handle the new feel or feature the way they want their users to experience it. It is kind of fair since they do provide a decent experience, but too each their own.

OHHHMyfuckinGEEEEEE man, that place pretty much exploded with symbian fanboys once Elop's plans were revealed. Oh man. OHHH MAAAN that place back then.
That was likely part of the reason they ditch disqus for livefyre (think that's what it's called now.)

I have a Windows Phone and Samsung Galaxy S4 on me at all times. I refused to carry the 5s when offered... What junk!
Go for the Lumia, you will love the OS. It just needs more apps, but once market starts to gain I expect it will grow fast. C# has a huge following.

...and sometimes they want you to buy the new iThingy. Nope, you aren't going to tell me more processor cycles were needed for them to enable background images on my 2G iPod Touch. Not buying it. Not when android devices with way worse specs had been doing that since before the G1. The update from 3.1 to 4 also made pretty much everything significantly slower and less responsive almost immediately. I use to use the thing to write with at the library, and right after the update, the touch keyboard lagged to the point of non-function. Was a better processor needed for my touch keyboard? Even though the same old one handled it with no issues before the update? BULLSHIT. The new 4G touch was just a few months away, and they were obviously trying to poke and prod users of older devices into upgrading as soon as possible. Instead of continuing to play the role their policy of enforced obsolescence had set out for me, I jumped ship instead.
All of that was a long time ago during the jobs era, but it seems these tactics are still in play at Apple today, if BEAs post is anything to go by.

Yeah, I'll probably upgrade soon. I didn't feel that the 5S was worth it for the money, and for that large sum of money I'd rather spend less on the old model. It's Ok, the Gs2 was better until it started having issues, and I had to get rid of it at that point.

Few things, but you can take it as you may since you are distraught over this. There could be more processes running in the background. If apple was intentionally borking old products the tech community would instantly oust it. But like I said too each their own. I dig the Nexus myself.

'The tech community' doesn't decide whether or not Apple get's to continue with their enforced obsolescence policy. Mainstream consumers do, and they aren't going to be the ones checking Engadget everyday and looking up SoC stats on wikipedia. Enthusiasts in every market segment are an island, and they have as much sway over the products they love as the stars do.
It was more than just 'a few things'. It's a $200 product. If you tell me your update is going to make things better, and it actually - with full intention - makes everything worse, then you can expect me to take issue with you when your whole marketing proposition is built on a mantra of 'it just works.' Truthfully, it just works, provided you keep replacing it with the new model, at an interval most advantageous to our bottom line.

I really don't want to get into this debate, but you honestly don't think if the tech community discovered this the news wouldn't run with this? Samsung wouldn't run ad's spreading the word?

No, because;
1) Forced obsolescence isn't news. It's a well known marketing tactic built into the foundations of most of our major corporations . Sorry, but these guys are not your friends. If they can manipulate you into year-over-year upgrades, they will. Walled gardens, selective feature removal (like the background image for my touch, and facetime over cellular networks like with the iPhone 4) and carefully walling out older devices from newer OS updates are excellent tools for cattle proding people into upgrading when the bottom line says it's right, and it works extremely well.
2) Samsung would be the last to try publicizing this, because they're just as bad. They too deny older devices newer android updates, usually with the excuse that a new version of touchwiz won't run so well on older hardware, or better yet, they let carriers take the fall and state that they won't let them do updates for older phones. Enforced obsolescence benefits the cellphone industry massively as well, especially for folks nearing the end of their two year contract terms, who've been dealing with progressively slower and slower phones that can't get any updates (and no, rooting doesn't count because most people don't do that)
3) No one else will publicize it because like samsung, everyone is doing it. HTC has Sense. LG has whatever they call their skin. Even Google. Remeber when they announced no more updates for the Nexus S? Not even Noki-Soft escapes. Remember when MS Threw Window Phone 7 early adopters into the fire over Windows Phone 8?
4) Why is this a problem for Apple if everyone is doing it? Because out of everyone else, they are the most aggressive, and you have no defense once it comes to your iDevice. Google didn't slightly break the update for the older Nexus 7 just because the 2014 version was on the horizon and they wanted you to buy it. Same goes for the nexus 4 vs. The 5. They cut off the Nexus S, but that makes sense given how old it is, and even given that, Nexus S users can still get updates through Cyanogenmod. They have a defense. Can the same be said of iPhone 3Gs Users? Original iPad Users? Hell no. The Galaxy S2 is still a viable option as a phone. It at least got ICS with no borking. Compare that to the iPhone 4, which gets a gimped version of iOS 7 with loads of key features stripped out (wow, every iPad get's a borked version of iOS 7 up to the 4th gen. Damn...) Willing to bet it won't be getting iOS 8 at all.

I've been using Android for a while now and really like my Nexus 5 and Nvidia Shield. However the last few days I have not been able to comment on Oppo on my Android devices. The cursor jumps around like crazy. Every other website works. Has it been working for you?

A lot of it relies on RAM not just processor cycles, but like I said you are extremely angry about the situation with Apple so I rather not even debate this out. Have fun with your new toy.

I really like mine so far. I love how customizable everything on it is. I was one of those people who always thought about jail breaking their iPhone but didn't want to deal with the warranty issues after. With the G2 it's all customizable out the box
