The Black Pearl isn't a hot rod, but an entirely custom vehicle; all of the body panels were hand-formed from aluminum by Marcel and Luc De Lay, based on designs from Hetfield, Dore and themselves, along with a custom interior and wheels. While it has the frame of a 1948 Jaguar, and a Ford V-8 good for 375 hp, the Black Pearl was meant more as a work of automotive art than a speedster.

I'd prefer a red interior, that would be more sinister.

I can't really tell, but your ID pick looks like a 2002. Do you own one?

I sure do. That's actually a picture of it jacked up in my school parking lot after one of the bolts holding on a heat shield magically disappeared, which lead to the most god awful rattling I've ever heard. She's a 1976 and her name is Alice. She's a bitch, but I love her. Ahaha
I think I've seen a picture of yours. Its the early model Chamonix, right? You've got a stunning car, if it is.

Yep that's mine. Jessica can also be a bitch. Currently running on three and a broken muffler. I'm actually about to buy parts now. Plugs, brake shoes, rear wheel cylinder, and an Ansa sport exhaust. I don't need the exhaust, could probably have the current one welded, but I found it for 200, it's usually around 300. So, I figure it looks cool, will sound better, and why the hell not. Have you don't anything to yours? You should post a picture if you have one.

Oh, have I... I went and crashed her. Luckily it was nothing too bad. It was purely cosmetic, and I'm starting work on welding on a new nose this summer. It sucks, and has taken away a lot of funds from the dual Webber side drafts or Ireland coil over kit that I had planned, but at least she'll be on the road. And I'll know for the future that the summer tires I had on suck in the rain on such a light car. I have done a few things though. I have an upgraded radiator from a 320i, a Luisi wooden steering wheel (basically a knock-off Nardi), and a few other cosmetic things. I got a new set of wheels before the incident. They'll hopefully be fitted on soon enough. Unfortunately, I don't have any great pictures of her. The minute she's back on the road, I plan on doing a celebratory photo shoot though.
Here are the wheels. Gotti 150s
And here's an old shot of her that I found on the internet from a local car show. The trim will stay off, even after she's painted. I've always liked the clean look of these cars without the belt line and the terribly ugly door trim.
As you can see, she needs some paint and new springs in the back, on top of the repairs. But I'm still very proud of her. Ahaha

Very cool. It's amazing how much the look of the car changes when you take off the front bumper. Did that once with mine, and it looked so aggressive. I also really like that color. One of the biggest issues with mine is a lack of it. I can really only put on black or gold wheels, which isn't a problem. I just purchased a set of 13" turbines from an E21 that I will plastidip black. Hopefully they will turn out okay.
I would upgrade the radiator, but I've never had a problem with overheating. For some reason my car tends to run a bit cold. It only got close once when I was sitting in stand still traffic on a 100 degree day. I have to say that side draft webbers and the IE swaybar, spring, and strut kit is on every 2k2 owners list of things to buy.
I'd also have to agree with you about the door trim, but I don't mind the belt trim if it stays intact. If you get one little dent in it, it ruins the whole flow.
You have an awesome car and it's nice to know I'm not the only idiot to buy one of these instead of saving for college or whatever's next. It's totally worth it.

Yeah, you can completely change the style of these cars extremely easily. I'm considering doing a Euro bumper conversion, but I kind of like the more aggressive look. I have time to think about that though. And I love the blue now. I wasn't 100% sure about it at first, but its definitely grown on me. I think my top three are the Pastellblau, Chamonix, and Malaga (I think thats what its called). But the turbines sound like they'll be great! I don't think I've ever seen black turbines, so that could be really cool. There's another guy who I follow on Instagram (mtmorto, I think) who used to have 13" turbines with 185/75/13 tires, I believe. It almost looked too good. Here's a photo, because why not.
But the Webbers and Ireland parts are definitely up there on everyone's list. I'm running a single webber carb now. Nothing special, but better than the Solex setup that was on the car when I bought it. And I have new headers sitting in my room next to the Gottis and some other misc. parts. Ahaha.
As far as the trim goes, I generally love it and if mine had the full set of beltline trim than I would keep it on, but I only have bits and pieces, and what I do have it pretty beaten up. It's been off of the car for long enough that I've grown to love the look. Maybe I'll get lucky and find a cheap set before I decide to paint it and fill the holes... We'll see.
And thanks a lot, man. It's always awesome to find another '02 owner off of the '02 forums. Especially when their car looks as good as yours. And, I might add, I am seriously jealous of your fog lights!

I bought the car for the fog lights. That 2002 above looks awesome. I really want to go outside now and paint the letters white. I still have the single barrel solex on mine. I have a double pumper sitting in the garage. Needs to be rebuilt, but I want that on there as soon as I can afford it. The euro bumpers look awesome, but for yours I might just recommend the front airdam (if you like the look of it) and then the fiberglass rear bumper painted black like the grill. Sort of like this, but minus the big bumper.
I don't know if these are turbines, but the would look like that anyway. Chrome lugs and bmw center caps. I actually just came up with the idea today when watching this video.

Oh, wow. Those look great in black. That would look great on a Chamonix car. And I support painting the letters white! And I was going to do the fiberglass rear bumper, but apparently someone in CA makes perfect reproduction Euro bumpers for, like, $400-500. For that price, it might be worth saving up some cash considering I can't find a good set for under a grand. And I do like the air dam, but I think if I did the air dam I would have to do the turbo flairs too and then I would have to widen the wheels, which means I would have to get custom lips for the Gotti's and that would cost more than tuition... Oi. Why do I like cars? They're so damn expensive. Ahaha.

Yep, the air dam is much better with the flairs. I won't put them on mine, but damn are they cool. If you get the euro bumpers I would get the shorter ones since you won't have the door trim. And yes, I tell everyone that I like and participate in the most expensive sport. They say golf, I say car parts. The only sport that could cost more is polo.

Me neither. At least, not on mine. It's rust free so I would feel way too guilty cutting into those fenders. But I would definitely go with the shorty rear bumpers. They look way nicer in my opinion. But yes, horses are possibly the only thing more expensive than cars. My girlfriend rides. She's really good, and her family has somewhere in the neighborhood of 12-14 horses... I can't even imagine what that costs, especially with how nice their horses are. If I could spend that kind of money on cars, I would be the happiest man on earth.

Oh yeah, me too. And I would share lots of pictures with my fellow Opponauts. Thats not to say they don't have some nice cars. Its hard to beat an AMG CLS, a Cayenne Turbo, and a Maserati GranSport (which is way more fun to drive than I thought it would be, considering its a V6)...
I want to be rich.
