This screen capture is from an item on the news today about Syrian refugees in Lebanon. That taxi there is a Mercedes, obviously, but it ain't a W112 like their German colleagues are tooling around in, nor the W211, W210, W124 or even march madness winner W123 that went before it.
No, this one's a W114, affectionally known to the Germans as the Strich Acht (stroke eight- from the VIN plates), which were built between 1968 and 1976. This one's got a broader, post face-lift grille, so that it'd make it a mere 41 years at the oldest, 38 at the youngest.
And probably not just earning its keep, but feeding a whole family. It's in good company. A greek colleague donated his Strich Acht to Mercedes-Benz after 4.6 million kilometres of service (2.85 million miles)
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to donate some money to the red cross/red crescent because those Syrian refugees need it.
