So this just popped on to the local Kijiji.
1991 BMW 850i, 12 cylinders of hope to hell this thing doesn't ever break fun.
Car was apparently owned by a 850 "specialist" in BC that fixed all mechanical issue with the car. Car has only 120000km which isn't that bad at all. The reason for the low price is apparently the paint which does look terrible, but for $8000 and a paint job you could own a 12 cylinder monster of a car.
What does Oppo think?

I think you should buy it, paint it, replace those wheels with something more attractive and then flaunt it here to our collective jealousy.
And when it breaks, come to us for support - we promise to give you equal helpings of sympathy and Schadenfreude .

I do think it is a beautiful car and might even consider looking at it because it is rare and dear lord it might kill you fast. But the fact that the repair costs could be in the realm of more than I make in a year, its a no go for me. Did see a used CRX the other day that looks like a potential toy.

Manual 850s are rare birds. Just have $8k set aside for maintenance, nearly 25 year old V12s are no joke.

Basically all I know about 12's are that if things break you are in trouble.

Well I could trade him all the money I have and still have to give him my 2 children. University graduate problems.

WANT!
This reminds me of a black 850i I saw for sale a few years ago. The paint was shot and they guy was trying to offload it for $8k. If I wasn't saving for a house at the time... But I'd probably still be living at home without a house (and probably without a wife) if I had bought it. I'm pretty sure the one I saw was an auto though

I wonder what the max towing weight is for a v12...

Never owned one, but all I've heard is that you should have the value of the car set aside for repairs since the engine was basically two V6s slapped together, so there's two of everything
