At least 7 dead after suspected WWII bomb explodes in Bangkok. Apparently, scrap metal workers were trying to break the bomb apart using a blow torch.

That's weird.

My local newspaper said they were cutting the bomb using a chainsaw.

Blow torch or acetylene torch? The latter is a "hold my beer and watch this", the former is an idiot moment which still might have been safer, because many explosives can be convinced to burn-rather-than-explode. I'm picturing an old-timey kerosene jobber turned up to heating temp for fasteners/softening, which is suicidal, but not *as much* as acetylene would have been. One would think the "shooting hot sparks and potentially exploding" of a full-blown cutting torch would be running more of a risk.

Still, the part where it's enclosed should've provided a "What am I DOING?" a la Bugs Bunny and the Gremlin.

Hmmm. Either way, it's a recipe for disaster.
