Not much larger than a full grown man the Davy Crockett nuclear device was to be used as a defensive front lines weapon if the United States every went to war with the U.S.S.R. Developed in the 1950's the device had the explosive equivalent of roughly 20 tons of TNT. I find it amazing that during the Cold War odd weapons such as this came into existence. Essentially a mortar, if the two countries had gone to war this weapon could have been a deceive and deadly weapon on the battlefield. We should all be thankful neither superpower ever decided to do something stupid during their 40 year pissing match.
Crazy stuff guys!

It looks like it should be wielded by Wile E Coyote and have ACME plastered all over the side of it. That's crazy!

I've never been super into these kinds of games, but back in the '80s I had this game:
One of the features of the game was that each side (NATO & Warsaw Pact) had at their disposal "tactical" nuclear weapons, which, IIRC, would work by substantially weakening the capabilities and mobility of the affected opponent's ground forces, for a time, allowing you to close in on them while their defenses were down. So, they weren't super huge in their effect, and they weren't very long ranged, but you could use them even when your own forces were weak or outnumbered.
EXCEPT: The rulebook stated that the first time during the course of the game either player elected to use tac nukes, you would roll a die. If it came up 1, 2, or 3, you would just make use of the nukes, continue your turn, and everyone would go on with the game. If the die came up 4, 5, or 6, then it was assumed that the initial use of tac nukes immediately escalated into global thermonuclear war, and the game was instantly over with no winner.
I thought this was brilliant.

Saw a similar video this morning my professor showed during lecture. It was an instructional video teaching soldiers how to advance after a Davy Crockett had been fired the video said "Do not worry about radiation sickness, if you are close enough for exposure you'll already be dead. Keep your mouth and eyes closed when entering the blast zone to take the forward area." Oh how wrong they were in 1950's.
