How can you not heard about him? He is one of the biggest names in the European design. He was designing cars since I wasn't even born. And because of that, I think that maybe, is time for him to retire. The Italian auto industry is pretty much Fiat, and Fiat needs new blood in the design department, new blood that can add 21st century trends, to the Italian design world and blow away the line that old school designers never dared to think about crossing.
If Alfa had BMW's money.

I've got no idea, especially given my love of Italian cars.
I think Alfa and Maserati are doing just fine with keeping what designs they have up to date. The 4C looks excellent, and the Giulietta was one of the earliest adopters of the floating grille type thing that's become commonplace on cars nowadays.
Plus, there are plenty of modern trends that I don't care for in the slightest. I'm very happy with his idea that lots of cars have been too fussy in recent design, and how cars should have an elegant simplicity to their design. A lot of the greatest designs have just that, both modern and classical.
