The distance between the supports of the bridge was 120 m, and the bridge was 30 m tall. The aircraft flew into this "window" at 435 mph. Privalov was facing court-martial, but the Defense Minister, Marshal Malinovsky decided to keep the pilot in the ranks.

Images are all over. The one I uploaded is huge.

Most images have text that reads:

The day was hot and sunny. Most people were on the beach, among them were military officers from the local headquarters. Suddenly, people heard the roar of the aircraft and a silver arrow rushed in front of everyone, soaring upward, leaving the huge wave behind. The distance between the supports of the bridge was 120 m, height 30 m. Aircraft flew into this "window" at the speed of 700 km/h. Privalov was facing court-martial, but the Defense Minister, Marshal Malinovsky decided to keep the pilot in the ranks.

Does look fake - but extremely long-exposed shitty film could certainly produce the same kind of blur as a good ol'-fashioned Soviet airbrushing. It's also possible the incident occurred, but they wanted a "Soviet pilot is best pilot" moment on camera they didn't otherwise have and resorted to the previous option.

The picture is fake (for example the shadows on the plane are wrong) but the event likely took place. I'm sure he was transferred to transport planes as his balls were too heavy for fighter jets.

I think you may be right on either count, but I'm leaning towards fake, even more so now that I see it on a bigger screen. No offense to Goggles, of course.

Seriously though, just look at the distances/angles and factor in the speeds involved. I have no doubt that he could have threaded the needle the way he did, but at 435 MPH, do you think he really could have pulled up quickly enough to have climbed out that far and at angle that close to the bridge?
