Kinja'd!!!

Given the post about the Goat with the thankful Carmax warrantee, I decided to check out their stock of corvettes.

Apparently, even !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! C6 Z06's are hitting below $40k now... /drool

Cheapest Manual I could find was just under $30k. ('08)

Cheapest Convertible (auto) was just under $29K. ('07)

ZR1 is only $73k Haha.

The outright cheapest is $26k. (for a C6, saw a C5 at $20k)

Yeah, isn't that amazing? Shoot maybe in a few years C6 Z06's will be dropping to low 30's or high 20's and I'll grab a C6Z instead of what I plan on, a C5Z. Especially when the C7Z is released.

Oh joy. And under $30k for a C6? Pretty sweet. These are also all prices from Carmax, not private sellers. That's the kicker.

Now... I just need to land a job in my field to start saving money.

Soon the day will come where the Z06 will be cheap enough for me to own...

Right? I just need to land that job... I'm working on it lol.

Either way, a C5Z can be had for an extremely reasonable amount of money already.

Very true love the c5z but 7.o vs 5.7 you do the math

lol that is very true. The $$ difference is intense though, and IDK that I'll mind less power on my first sports car haha.

Don't want to loose control and crash, the 5.7 is already overwhelming as a first sports car.

For a first sports car you can't do much better than a C5z the C6z is that murder we all know killed the guy but for some reason we still love him.

I feel like the C6 ZR1 is going to be an interesting footnote while the C6 Z06 will be the car to own 20-30 years from now. The LS7 is going to go right up there with the L88 and LT5.

Have you driven anything in the Corvette's weight class with 300+ HP before?

Because even an L98 C4, with 240 HP, will get you into trouble if you don't respect it. It's the torque, you see, that breaks tires loose and sends you sideways.

Closest thing I've driven was an 04 GTO. I had a tough enough time letting the clutch out without launching.

I don't drive stick every day though, so I'm not practiced. And that was all at low speeds in the GTO.

I've debated on grabbing up an older 'vette first if my financials restrict the C5Z. Would still be more than enough power for me in my first sports car.

C4's are certainly respectable, it isn't my favorite corvette design but it isn't too bad. Mechanically, I think it really is a great car for its era.

Agreed. While the ZR1 is pretty damned awesome, the Z06 is the more desirable car mechanically imo. That NA LS7 is just something else.

Zero options, just how I'd like it (painted wheels, no nav). But I'm curious what has been installed that the on/off switch on the center console is for. It also has not-nearly-up-to-the-performance tires... they look like freaking no season tires.

That would be a good step toward 'Vette ownership, haha.

Yeah, it has its faults. But it is still indicative of the prices coming down a bit on those cars.

I gotta stop looking at this post... getting too lustful! lol

GTO is heavy, a bit different than the Corvettes. I should think that takes a bit more torque to send it sideways. That said, I haven't driven a GTO so what do I know. I was just asking because while 405 HP isn't too crazy for a first sports car, it's not exactly in the garden-variety-sports-car area, either. Doing 0-60 in 3.9 seconds is damn quick.

The C5Z isn't too much of a stretch over a really nice C4 though, and, unless you want the feel and looks of the C4, is the better car to get.

Of course, 30 years from now they may have to be running E85/E100...which only means more power!

Yeah I plan to hold out for the C5Z.

And definitely, the goat doesn't handle anything like a 'vette, and is pretty heavy. That said, it still has way the hell more power than anything I'd driven before.

I'm a little scared of the getting used to the C5Z when I get it, but I'll be ok I think

As long as you treat it with respect while you get used to it (and after), you'll be fine. I went from a 115 HP Mk. IV Jetta to a 330+ HP Corvette. Only time I went sideways, I was expecting to go sideways. :)

thanks! Yeah I would be afraid to ruin it, I totally hold them as such a dream car I couldn't possibly be stupid with it
