Which State's Outline Would Make the Best Track?

I was just wondering this last night before going to bed. Obviously any state with islands would be problematic (Alaska), any state composed ENTIRELY of islands (Hawaii), and any non-contiguous state (Michigan) would be out. My state of Oregon would be pretty cool for the coastline, but the straight California/Nevada border and then up the Snake River and down the Columbia are not great routes. My pick would be the great state of West Virginia:

Kinja'd!!!

West Virginia is noted for its mountains and diverse topography..

That's from the very first line on their official state website! Seems pretty perfect to me.

What state would you pick?

I see nothing wrong with considering the lower or upper peninsula of Michigan.

Washington wouldn't work either, but New Hampshire looks like it would be fairly entertaining.

So, I don't think Michigan would make for a bad track, the lower peninsula has it all, long straights, hairpin turns and high speed corners. Especially if you smooth out the coast line a bit, like in this pic:

Don't count out Michigan. We have this thing called a bridge that connects the two areas. Just use it as a cross over between the two track areas. The lower peninsula is the higher speed section, and the upper peninsula is the more technical section.

That would be a hell of a hair pin turn up near Cawtawba Island. I suppose we could ignore the Bass & Kelly's Island as well, as a ferry ride over there would really slow up a race. But, the straights along the western portion of the state would allow some astonishing speeds.

No, you forgot the horrible road conditions in Michigan. You'd be much more likely to lose a wheel from a pothole and careen uncontrollably into a nearby tree. You'd never make into Canada. Lake Michigan, maybe, but never Canada.
