"For Sweden" (rallybeetle)

Spoiler alert, obviously.
So the finale was a bit long-winded, but in the end, the show could have ended no other way. Nine seasons of sporadic yet significant character growth for all five main characters, plus the singular title character, demanded that the show could end no other way. Sure, the writers could have fallen back on the sitcom trope of "and then the characters remained static and two-dimensional, the end," but this show was no pure comedy. Character growth through life's humors and tragedies propelled this show to the logical conclusion each character deserved, even if it took nine seasons for them to shed all of their baggage, their pretentiousness, their short-shortsightedness, their selfish pining, and their emotional distance to be mature enough for their ultimate ending to accept them.
And that, kids, is the story of how I went from the guy narcissistically jealous that it was my friend, and not me, getting engaged, to the man who could meet your mother and be worthy of her happily ever after.

When the show re-airs in syndication the new working title is "How I Met Your Dead Mother"
Also I liked the ending and found it to be extremely predictable. I kept telling my wife all season that Ted ends up with Robin. I stopped believing it with about 4 minutes left in the episode figuring they ran out of time to make it happen. I didn't see the dying part. I did miss that.

I was really pretty content with how it ended. I'm sure people are upset, and I know people have been complaining about the show for awhile...but I liked it. I think they covered a lot of ground in the last few episodes, and last night it definitely showed just how people and promises change over time...but some things are always a constant.

The new series, How I met your Uncle , should be much better anyway.

It would have been really fitting to see Bob Saget as Ted in the last scene with the blue French horn. He was the voiceover the whole way through, and it would've brought everything full circle.
