I couldn't even imagine living in the city in a time like this, let alone passing through
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
On my return trip from Caffeine & Carburetors in New Canaan CT last year I inadvertently took a wrong turn into the bronx and passed the burnt out shell of a grand caravan sitting on the shoulder of the road. I guess the more things change, the more they stay the same.

I have heard a lot of stories from my father about the 70's and 80's. A lot has changed and for the better, it was as though NYC was entirely like the worst part of Detroit. All this stuff didn't stop my father though from riding the trains to every single part of the city. I think it was part of the reason why he is extraordinarily street smart and knows how to handle himself in sketchy situations. He has a lot of childhood friends he still keeps in contact with, I think it was slightly different than most peoples friendships today. You had buddies not only to hang out with but to be sure there was at least a couple guys who would have your back in case things went sideways.
