Mitsubishi is pulling the plug on the Evo, for good.
To focus on building more of these:

Well with Mitsubishi's absolute collapse it probably won't be too hard to get one for cheap. This has been a long time coming, they need to do a serious purge and restructure and seriously step up otherwise they will go just like Suzuki.

That's really a shame cause Mitsu was one of my favorite underappreciated car makers. Though if they still make a Lancer, there will probably be aftermarket support to make 'em fast.

It's true. I'd like to end up with an Evo VII at some point.

I actually saw an i-miev the other day, driven by a nice older woman. She let me make a turn on a busy street \o/

Am I the only one who thinks a brand like them (especially in their situation) NEED a flagship to make themselves relevant again?
I mean... what is Nissan if they cancel things like the GT-R and the 370z? They may still make good cars, but I think they won't get half the attention.

If I were to take any generation, probably a IV or V.
But limited to what we got in the U.S. market, it would be a IX MR.

I think it depends. I'm sure they make the bulk of their money off bread-and-butter products like the Sentra. Having a flagship does make you stand out a little more, but I doubt the majority of the people I've seen driving around in Sentras even know about (or care about) something like the Evo. Having a flagship also gives everyone in the company a little more pride, and a standard of quality and performance that everyone can try shooting for.
Speaking of flagships, what is Toyota's flagship? The Lexus LFA? The Scion FR-S? Companies like Kia don't really have a flagship, yet seem to be doing just fine.

Yeah, most of Nissan buyers don't know the GT-R exists, but still. I think that some of it still rubs off. Because the clueless mom that buys a Sentra may have walked into the Nissan dealer because her son has a badge on his laptop. IT'S LIKE SUBLIMINAL MESSAGES. Crap!
Most people I know that own Mitsubishis either buy them because they think the Evo is awesome or because they've owned one of their (proper) 4x4s.
I think toyota has found itself on a place where they don't need a flagship carrying their logo. People buy them because they sell a lot and they know they're reliable. I think the same goes for Acura.
