Don't read this if you haven't seen the race. Though if you haven't yet seen the race I have little sympathy for you.

Bottas 3 grid spot penalty for impeding Ricciardo in Q2. I felt that was crap because Bottas was on a lap himself. At least I think he was. Anyhow not a fan of that penalty.

Bianchi - causing a collision. Yes Bianchi smacked Crashanado, but Bianchi only did that because Vergne cut down his tire. If the penalty was applied to the contact with Vergne then the next penalty really makes no sense.

Magnussen - causing a collision. I saw the replay and Magnussen was on the inside edge of the track. Kimi came across Magnussen's nose as he moved across the track to setup the next corner. There was nowhere for Kevin to go and he had every right to the position he had. This was a horrible call IMO.

Ricciardo - a stop and hold penalty for unsafe release and a 10 grid spot penalty in Bahrain. Yeah he earned every bit of that penalty. The rules are cut and dry and the fact the team had to push him back to his pit box makes it clear the car wasn't safe to be released back in to the pit lane.

Ricciardo got shafted throughout the entire race

They were so penalty happy it was ridiculous. You have to expect some collisions in racing. The Magnussen one is the one that really pissed me off.

i kinda see the point wrt Bottas. He was impeding a guy on his fast lap while he was only setting up to start his. Almost always if you impede someone in the last two corners before you start your own fast lap and start going fast, you will get a penalty.

Kimi had the racing line there. KMag stuck his nose up the inside in a short stretch between two corners just because Kimi slid loose. Rookie mistake imo.

I don't fault the stewards for the unsafe release penalty, but I do think the prescribed penalties focus in the wrong spot. It should deduct manufacturers points, rather than penalizing a driver who's only doing what the team has told him to do. IMO, only penalize the driver if he has left before the team cleared him or otherwise was at fault, not for a wheelman's error.

They are penalizing the team in manufacturers points... by making it harder to score points. However with the penalty they do have the ability to make it up on track. A penalty points you can't get back. A grid penalty you can come back from.

Well, either way it can be made back on track. I understand the effect of a grid penalty, but IMO a manuf points penalty is better because it penalizes just the team and not the driver (in addition to being more effective against backmarking teams, Marussia with -10 points instead of starting the race at the back still?).

As much as I am unhappy about it, I'm kind of agreeing with the book being thrown at Ricciardo. RBR are trying to break records for the fastest pit stops, and as a result they've released two cars with loose wheels in less than a year.

Just a shame that you can't penalise the pit crew without punishing the driver.
