I've ordered a new bicycle. It's one of the hipster cruiser types if that helps. But to the important part, I ordered it in gold by accident and want to paint it, I'm thinking candy green. Any suggestions on the easiest way to do this?

Strip it to the naked frame, sand blast it, then powder coat it.

We'll see, trust me the pictures will end up on here.

Second person saying powder coat. I was thinking of taking a page out of the low rider book, candy paint and graphics done in gold leaf.

Going for something like this?

The problem with painting a bike frame is how much wear and tear a bike sees. If you plan on using it for anything more than a seat on wheels (like the low rider bikes) it will most likely look like hell after a month.

Maybe just add some black pin striping and call it an homage to JPS Lotuses or Trans Ams?

Paint color just a tad darker. But the rest of it, no.

More along the lines of this actually.

I meant lowrider car style. And i am completely happy painting it every few months if necessary, it would keep it fresh.

That's not bad, the thing should look cool when you're done. Even if it's not 100% lowrider (as you'd suggested in another comment).

I hadn't even thought of this. I guess I'll have to see what shade of gold it is.

Yeah, it'll be fun doing it too. And luckily I live and work at places where it isn't likely to get stolen so I can do whatever I like to it.

Well in that case if you want a low rider look, I'd assume you also want a metal flake finish. To get the low rider finish you'll want to paint the whole frame in a metal flake silver. After the base coat cures, you'll then finish it with the candy green clear coat in thin layers until you get the shade you want.
It's going to be a lot of work, but if you're up to it you'll get a lot of practice.

I'm thinking so, I just have to try and get access to an air compressor large enough or find an alternative way to spray.

I have a Bikelopnik post to make as well, but as far as I can figure, my new bike is 1 of 305, so I'm trying to figure out what # of the 305 it is before I post, lol

A good powder coat from people who actually understand how to work on a bicycle frame will run you about 73€ here if you do all the godawful prep work yourself. A bad powder coat from the radiator coating guy will range from 0-60 depending on how friendly you are with radiator guy and how much he likes beer but carries the distinct possibility of filled threads and crucial flat surfaces no longer being flat.

It seems like anything is fair game on here so go for it.

I'll probably just do a painstaking paint job on my own. I know it's not advisable nor will it last as long but the experience sounds fun.
