Lets say, hypothetically speaking of course, that you knew someone who has a screaming chicken pace car in mint garage kept condition and less than 50k miles on it and they wanted to get rid of it pretty quickly.

Kinja'd!!!

What would it be worth?

Well, do what the pro's do. Find out what other "screaming chicken" pace cars have sold for in the past 2 - 4 years, adjust for condition and mileage, and you would have a pretty good idea what it is worth. But, if the owner is looking to sell the car quickly, the sale's price would be lower than the actual worth of the car. Full value is predicated on a certain exposure time to the market. A shorter time on the market, typically results in a lower sales price.

5700 pace cars were made in 1980. If it is running I'd guess around 8-11k. Trans Ams are only going up in value and these special edition ones are worth a decent premium over the standard Trans Ams. I'd say it's a decent short to mid term investment car.

Barrett-Jackson is a truly horrible judge of market value for cars. Everything sold there is over-restored, and is ridiculously nice. Combine that with the attention that comes with B-J and you're left with a skewed snapshot of perceived value.

Definitely agree...it was just to show the absolute, ridiculous, highest end value one could hope for. I have an idea, though: if mkbruin sells it at B-J, tells them it was used as transport JFK's body to further increase the value, they will be willing to promote it with the story. Sure, it requires time travel for that to even be possible, but someone will still buy it

Hagerty puts it at 15-20k if it is in very good shape (i.e. needs no work)

And that it did. It's amazing how many people go by that as the gospel. Don't get me wrong, you'll see some wonderful stuff there, but nothing is real world. It's a dick measuring contest for those with an assload of money for the most part, all of the other auction houses have similar vehicles (not talking about the type of stuff that Bonham's usually has) that go for real world numbers.
