First off, not my car. Got that picture from GIS. But my headlights are about as fogged up as those if not, worse. Instead of going out and buying one of those kits or paying a mechanic about 300x the amount I should to do it, is there a good solution using items I may already have in my home?

Toothpaste a rag and some elbow grease. Follow up with an $8 bottle of Meguair's headlight protectant. Or you can try a protective film once you clean them up.

Did this last weekend on my gf's 2002 Civic and it worked great.

I've heard that toothpaste does the trick.

Toothpaste and paper towels.

The kits are basically a collection of increasingly-finer grades of sand paper (with some kind of spray on lubricant) followed by a pad with some rubbing compound and some wax to finish it off. Definitely tape off the paint and definitely use a drill - mine were real bad and I went with the 'by hand' kit but ended up going back for the 'drill-ready' kit. This was a couple years ago, and my headlights are just as bad again, so the finishing stuff must not have been of much worth.

Er, that looks like a TL LOL.

Yay TLs.

Anyways, so I tried that headlight cleaning stuff and it did clear it up for a while, but eventually it went back foggy again, I didn't think it was worth the work. So I just never did it again.

I went through so many bottles of that crap (usually kept losing them, lol). You know its bad when your car is the car on the bottle.

I have heard that toothpaste works. But I use Meguires and a drill and it works quite nice.

Is this the brand you use? Right next to the headlight fluid on aisle 3?

Here's a pro-tip: those headlight restoration kids are essentially a very fine grit wet sand-paper (3000, I think) and the stuff in the bottle is distilled water.

Enjoy.

Do it the Zenvo ST1 way. Fire to headlights, no more fogged up headlights! And no more everything else! Crude, but effective!

Well you didn't say you didn't want to get rid of other things too...

Just buy a kit, they are not that expensive and the end results will be much better.

If that's s big issue/problem, any type of polishing compound will help.

So what you're saying is get a bottle of distilled water and a magic eraser?

I have no idea what a magic eraser is, but if it's analogous to fine-grit wet sand paper, sure.
