Brits are cast as villains in American movies because they're foreign and speak half-understandable English.

Then why aren't Australians ever the bad guys (Disney movies with talking mice notwithstanding)?

'arf-understannable English? What you on 'bout ol' china? Brits speak perfect English.. perhaps not when down the rubbity tho' but when beating the trouble they sure do make sense ;)

Because no one takes the Australian accent seriously.

Probably because they're crazy, sorta like us. I mean, 2000 hp cars built for the sole purpose of frying tires? That sounds pretty 'Murican to me.

Two words:
Cowboys hats.
That explains the bond between the USA and Australia.

This is brilliant.
On a serious note though, my theory, that I just came up with, is that British English just represents the "otherness," so any foreigner, doesn't matter who, can speak with an English accent as a testament to said foreign-ness. It is the same reason why exotic fantasy locations (Middle Earth, the Seven Kingdoms, Space) are mostly inhabited by apparent Brits. Talk about imperialism...
